So, my housemates in Spain are 4 girls aged between 19 and 23. In Spain people don't generally get jobs until after university and moving out is almost unheard of! So you end up with loads of young people who don't really have much 'practical life experience'.
Anyway, I came back the other week to be hold that the oven was broken. I accepted this but wondered why the landlord hadn't been called to fix it. So today I resolve to fix it myself. I asked what was wrong with it and you know what it was????
SOMEBODY SPILT SOMETHING IN THE OVEN AND NOW BLACK SMOKE COMES OUT WHEN YOU TURN IT ON.
Now, anybody with any sense knows that that simply means that the oven is DIRTY. The bottom of the oven has some black shit stuck to it which obviously causes the smoke. Now, none of the girls even considered the idea of cleaning the oven. It's incredible. No, actually, one of them did, with some washing up liquid!!! Oh, but that didn't work so that counts as sort of 'we've tried everything we could!' and the oven is then officially 'broken'.
Today a couple of the girls went out and bought pizzas. They got back to the house and went, 'oh no, the oven's broken isn't it!'. But fear not, for they had a superb way to get around this. FRY THE PIZZAS. Yes. Use a frying pan and fucking fry the pizzas. But then they came up against a seemingly unsurmountable problem! "There aren't any clean frying pans!", one of them said. Cue a good 3/4 minutes of looking around the kitchen trying to figure out what to do before one of them said, "we'll just have to wash one of them". JEEEEEESUS CHRIST!!!!! JESUS CRISTO!!!
Now, I love these girls. They're great fun to be around but fuck me they have absolutely no idea how to look after themselves or our house. I do find it funny but sometimes - like when every single item of crockery or cutlery has been used - it can get to me and I have to do a mad clean but I never hold any grudges.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. Ooooyy. People like that annoy me to no end. They always come off as spoiled brats to me, whether they're 'justified' for not knowing how to take care of themselves or not.
Yeah I know what you mean. I used to live with a rich girl who would be eating something, decide she didn't like it and just get up and leave the table without cleaning up anything!!! Like, there's a plate of half-eaten food sitting there and she'd just fuck odff to her room to do coke.
With these girls though it's just more to do with people being 'children' for a lot longer than they are in the UK and the USA. We got a little puppy (well it belongs to one of the girls) and it pissed on the floor and she just says 'bad dog!' but doesn't think to clean it up right away! I mean, there's a little puddle of dog piss in our living room!!!! Thank the Lord that Spain doesn't do carpets!
