football is such a more beautiful game than any american sport, and its difficult to explain why that is (this coming from someone who regularly plays basketball).

I'm rooting for the Dutch all the way! It would be brilliant to see an African team win it all (Ivory Coast or Ghana) but i doubt that'll happen.

Gutter i don't know what state you are in but where i am (DC) a lot of people are caught up in the world cup craze. Its great! All the bars have delicious imports for specials. I love seeing people drunk in the afternoon. My only problem is that many American's really don't understand soccer and do not know how to talk trash properly. Also as a general rule people should know better than to talk loudly about work during a match. fuckers.

Tasy i'm sad SA is out. You guys definitely had the best national anthem.

Sad times, but it was expected.

I went to a bar on Wednesday night and when our team sang our national anthem, we all stood up and sang along. It was awesome!

    So glad Germany lost today.

Go England. Dunno where I'm gonna watch the game tonight so cold and my throat is killing me – not from the vuvuzela.

Lazyhops, I saw a bunch of foreigners with packets full of vuvuzelas. I counted ten in the one packet. So guess what, the bees will be singing louder!!!!!!

Sucks for USA though. You think they cheated on the last goal?

I found one USA dollar note on the floor today! Awesome, I can buy and slab of chocolate with that!

P.S. The foreigners are getting horny over here. Including MARRIED men!!! Was half man handled by the one. Idiot.

Ugh. Or maybe they could just completely bottle it and let everyone down again. That was the most pathetic performance of the tournament so far BAR-NONE. Other teams have lost because they've made mistakes or have lacked penetration in the last 1/3 of the pitch or simply because they're shit (South Africa) but England were just abysmal last night. They can just fuck off if they want to play like that. It was a performance not dissimilar to the one given by the French the other day but Algeria were just too shit to score against us.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

Hells yes! AND the USA got through too courtesy of yet another goal by Landon Donovan. Whaddaguy! Timmy Howard kept another clean sheet too. EVERTON FTW!

Unlucky South Africa but at least you beat last year's finalists which is definitely an achievment.

I absolutely love football and this World Cup is just getting better and better. I only wish I was crashing on Tasty's floor!

Booo! If you had Timmy Cahill for all three games then I reckon you might've made it, but that battering at the hands of Germany didn't help the goal difference. I'm more gutted for New Zealand though who didn't lose a game! That's a really great performance in a group with Italy and Paraguay in it.

We've got Zee Germans up next which should be a goodun.

I have a spare room and a double bed for you and Lazyhops. Cuddles!

This soccer world cup is hard work. Went partying on Friday night and it was pumping the streets - just as busy as the opening game! I only got home 4ish am and had to get up at 7 for work!!!!

Brazil vs Portugal was a let down. No goals!!! Grrr!

Oh man I'm so waiting for the anger from the Poms on here. It should have been 4-2.

there would only have been anger if it finished 2-1. As it stands, that goal would've made no difference. It DOES show, however, exactly how FIFA live in the dark ages.

P.S. I don't know what a pom is, but based on the context I'd say its the Australian word for the English. shut it you convict! :P
