Okay, everyone on here goes on about how geeky they are, I'm suggesting it gets put to good use. I dunno who of you here can code, but I'm thinking a realtime Stupid-Boy program, that tells you REAL TIME when someone has posted, who they are, and what the topic was. How quality would that be? No more hitting the refresh button, oh no. Plus you KNOW it's gotta be do-able.

I've taken a few programming courses before, not so good, but I know basics..

It's possible, it would be programmed to get HTTP access to S-B and recieve all the topics, and made to auto-refresh every (x) seconds, and when a change is made, it notifies you with a (link) to the new change..

UNLESS.. (much much harder method, less bandwidth)

the forum owner makes it so that when someone clicks 'Add Reply' or 'Submit Post', it sends a notify to a server, and that server automaticaly sends it to all the people who are <using this program and currently connected to this server>
A LOT OF WORK NEEDS TO BE DONE!
If you can't down it; crown it

People are very open-minded about new things -- as long as they're exactly like the old ones.

Or, alternatively, every time a new post is added to the main SQL database, the information can be captured from that and fed on...

Don't like the idea of refresh though. Energy Efficiency.

First of all, I just graduated as a Software Engineer...so, I'm the king of the nerds here. Anyway, I don't think it's worth the effort. Pay me and I'll do it. Besides....I think you can just turn off "caching" and that will retrieve the latest page from the server every time you access this site.
On Late Night with McBane:
McBane to his bands black front man: Hey schowie I like your new jacket, it makes you look like a homersexual.
The audience boos him.
Mcbane: Ahh, maybe you are all homersexuals.

That happens anyway. The forums have meta tags which tell your browser not to cache the pages, and unlike UBB every page is freshly generated here.

The "easiest" way to do it would be to alter the source files for the post screens. As well as sending the information to the database, you could send it to ICQ's web-messenger scripts. That could work quite well, but it would take some serious work and obviously you'd need to download ICQ.

I've just found out that there is actually such a program in existance . It really is for geeks only at the moment (new, friendlier version coming out Jun 1st).

Ask me if you want any more details or to try it out though.
