I always envy people with dreadlocks. I love them. People with dreads get like the ultra hot factor in my opinion. Anyway the past couple months I've been considering doing them.

But of course..I don't know the first thing about dreads and I've been reading up on some of it but perhaps some experienced 'viduals can assist or advise.

    Like...

Is it better to use a kit or au natural?
After your hair has been dreaded for awhile, is it easy to deal with?
Can you get them professionally done? I figure that would cost out the wazoo though cuz I hear it takes like 2 days to dread hair as long as mine...
Is the dreadlock experience worth it? I'd be rockin' them in college and then chop them off before I graduate so I can get a decent job.

    Hmm..

    ghetto, please don't do dreads.
you're cute and tiny...dreads will make u just be tiny, except for your hair which will look like a racoon is trying to eat your head.

How long is your hair now? Make sure that you've really thought this out as dreadlocks can really be a giant pain in the ass, and getting really good looking dreads are a giant investment of time and energy. First off, don't use wax or try to get them to naturally form. This will result in a sticky clusterfuck on top of your head. Your best bet is to do the 'crochet method', where you form initial dreads by backcombing locks of hair into frizzy nats then use a special crochet hook to weave it into a little dread. You should probably start looking around various hair places and asking if they do dreads. Try to find a specialized store (in my town there is this lady from Jamaica who does some amazing dreadwork) Prices vary.

As for the showering part, you'll rarely wash your dreads and generally avoid getting them wet, as it is very difficult to dry them out completely. Getting them wet frequently and not drying properly can actually result in mold growing inside of the dread. A girl friend of mine had dreads for about a year before she got completely sick of them and chopped them off at a music festival, in a women's bathroom with a pair of borrowed scissors. They look great, but be warned, are "an amazing pain in the ass" (my friend's words)

iv had locks for 2 1/2 years now

theres many different ways to make many different types of dreads. i could go on and on explaining it all but why not just give you a link, a lot easier. www.dreadheadhq.com

thats the place i ordered my kit from. if your serious about getting dreads, make sure you get the best kit you wallet will allow. you dont want to get some shitty $10 kit or your dreads will come out lookin like complete shit. so if your gona do it, do it right.

a few things that i remember from right when i got dreads that the site might not list. after your done with the main process make sure you keep rubber bands at the roots of each dread, the further down the better. also, rearrange them when needed. one more thing is to get spray if you can afford it, it should be cheap. usually the spray cools/moistens your scalp during the early stages. the rubber bands and and the tightness of your hair can agitate the scalp for the first few weeks.

they take a lot of TLC the first few weeks but after that their good to go. only thing you need to remember is to NOT USE NORMAL SOAP. use anti residue soap.

definatelly not the easiest hair due to rock but its worth it for sure. read over the site i gave you and if you need help or have questions hit me up.

my friends say my hair is good for it

sometimes some of my hair forms dreads itself
but i always take it out coz i think it looks kinda dirty

the hygiene thing is kinda bothering me, I like to wash my hair in time
but my best made had dreads for over a year too and it didn't stink really :P (he washed it every so many days with water)

Don't go all natural, they will end up looking like crap. The best is to get someone to do them for you.

i tried to dread my hair once. i let my hair do it naturally since it's so curly, and they got fairly dready before i decided that i just couldnt do it anymore so i combed it all out. i know people who have done it with waxes and things and people who have let it go naturally and the person i know with my favourite dreads had straight hair and let it go naturally. i really like them too ... its just not something i could commit too.

I had quite a few friends who had dreads back when I was at uni... They looked good, one of my friends just let hers go that way naturally, it looked alright.

Then this guy friend, think he did it all professional like... Looked heaps better, best looking dreads I seen prolly...

Then theres me AFL fan guy, well I don't actually know him quite obviously but his dreads look gorgeous but he is hot....

Thats all really apart from I think you gotta be really sure it's what you wanna be doing, next day you might have a change of heart, I think in general they tend to suit guys better too thats just me though.

i'd recommend having them done for you. it might be more expensive but it would do a lot to eliminate the risk of having them be all fucked up.

my cuz had dreads and instead of chopping them off she undid them all when she was sick of them. i think this took her about 4 days and she said in that situation again, she would just shave them off.

dreads are awesome and i think you'd be able to pull them off well and look great.
she's not that kind of a girl, booger!
