What kind of foundation does everyone use? I went to a photo session today and a Mary Kay lady made me over. I hate having this much makeup on. How do you deal with it? I got a little sweaty and it felt like my face was melting off. Do you use liquid foundation or a powder or something else? And, more importantly, why is it that women have to use makeup to keep their skin protected from the pollution and stresses of every day life, but men don't? What's up with that?

Normally I use Mary Kay's creme to powder foundation, but not regularly, only when I put a full face on when I'm going out and I don't mind it so much, but I rarely do that, so I don't know I could wear it daily. Tips, advice, anything. I've never really had to use makeup before and keep in mind that my job can get manual on some days and I live in hot as hell Texas, so I'm gonna perspire, in a glowing kinda way.

Also, what cleaners do you rely on for like the full experience, i.e. moisturizer, exfoliator, mask, etc?

I use the foundation that is liquid but turns to powder that the Body Shop used to sell, but the discontinued it so I don't know what I'll do when I run out of what i have. I find the liquid stuff easier to apply, but my friend says i shouldn't use it because when i smile it cracks, but the one that turns to powder has more flexibility. I have to research what other brands have a similar thing.

My grandmother never wore make up for her whole life and had the best skin i'd ever seen on a 93 year old woman. So i really keep my make up wearing to a minimum from her example.

I can't stand foundation. I feel like I've got a mask on. Instead I use chanel concealer. It's mainly for under eyes but can even out other areas too.

I dislike foundation too can't stand that caked on feeling. I only ever wear eye kinda makeup and only occasionally. Eyeshadow, liner and the like. I don't like over the top makeup like that Napoleon makeup artist troloupe likes to achieve. Looks scank whorish.

Really hate all that chemical acoholic removable stuff too, SO so shit for the ole skinaroo... Really noticed how dry skin on face is at mo but would prefer that for the winter than that shit on my face hermmm....

I use powder. I've ALWAYS hated liquid foundation. I stick to MAC's Studio Fix. It's expensive, but it's the best stuff ever. It usually lasts me a really long time, because I only put it on once a day. I don't like the caked on look/feeling, either, but I do need a little coverage. I just feel like my pores are exposed to the world without it. Seriously, you should check it out. Just go to the MAC counter, get a free makeover, and ask them to use the Studio Fix.

The only disadvantage to powder is that it doesn't have SPF in it. But you can always put on a moisturizer that has it.

As far as cleansing, I use Clinique's Liquid Facial Soap, any ol' toner from the grocery store, and Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizer. I tend to find a product that I like, stick with it for a while, and then try something new. I was hooked on Origins for a while, and it was awesome. So expensive, though... The thing about Clinique is that it seems to last me for a really long time. I was using Get Down (Origins), which is a clay cleanser, but you can also use it as a mask. Any of their "A Perfect World" stuff is great. Hmmm..... I may just have to get back into Origins.

    Ultraceuticals Mineral Foundation.

mineral foundation is the only way to go.

it's light, it's matte, it's good for your skin, it's got awesome coverage and it hides blemishes really really well.

seriously - mineral foundation is the only way to go.

I don't use foundation or concealer or powder or anything like that. I don't need to. My skin is really even, so I guess I'm lucky. I went and had my makeup done for prom, and the chick used SO much stuff. I didn't even know why she put all of that shit on my face...I could feel my pores clogging up. And I didn't need it.

I used to be just like that, Phantom. I never used any kind of makeup, but now my face is starting to be a little rougher and not as even. My skin is not bad, but I'd like to take preventative steps in order to make sure that it stays lovely. Thanks for all of the tips guys! Jet - I've heard that mineral powder is the best and might try that. I think I might take up the MK lady on the cleanser regime, but the makeup stuff is a different story.

I use Bare Escentuals powder foundation from Sephora. It's the most fantastic foundation ever. While it is a little pricey compared to foundations you buy at the drugstore, you only need to use a little teeny bit and it last forever. It really evens out your skin and it's, seriously, the greatest stuff ever. I highly recommend you watch the infomercial on it. Everything they say about it is true. All of Bare Escentuals' other products are fab too.

And, more importantly, why is it that women have to use makeup to keep their skin protected from the pollution and stresses of every day life, but men don't? What's up with that?[/b]
I know what you mean by men getting away with using nothing. I brought Mal nivea moisturiser for men and he uses it now and then if his skin feels dry from the weather. But otherwise my guess is from shaving which exfoilates the skin at the same time is enough for him. Will be interesting to see how his skin is when he's older.

I use Shiseido Sunblock foundation, it's a wet/dry powdery foundation and contains SP32, it has a medium coverage and it's light, you don't even notice you've got anything on. For skin care I use Clarins cleanser, toner and moisturiser and Guinot hydrating mask, polisher and eye lotion, when I've finished the Guinot products I will replace them with Clarins.

mary kay ladies have this makeup application formula they use on everyone with complete disregard to the person's lifestyle. they slap on every bit of makeup known to man and make you feel like you have been ugly as sin before the great mary kay transformation in hopes that it will inspire you to buy their products.

i use mac face powder, and sometimes this one thats a thicker powder so its kinda like a combo powder and foundation, but i brush it on softly so its very light. i also use yves st laurent under eye stuff and bobby brown concealer if i have a zit. i brush my eyebrows into postion, quick coat of mascara and some vaseline on my lips and i'm done. thats pretty much my standard. if i am working a lot i wear no makeup at all. if i'm going out or something i'll put on eye shadow and lip gloss or stick.

for cleansing products i have been using cetaphil face wash and moisturizer since i was in highschool. dove body wash and eucerin cream. all those products are whats recommended by dermatologists for incredibly dry skin, which is what i have. in the summer i'm not so dry and i can use other stuff. right now i am using a body wash and cream by philosophy called "falling in love." i have never fallen in love with a scent like this before. too bad it cost me 60 dollars for the 2 items!!!

I try to use one that is fairly light.

There is a product called Bare Essentials that is really just a powder that you put on. It's really great stuff and really does the job. At first it might seem like alot of work but after you learn out to put the stuff on it only takes 5 minutes and its not a heavy wet pasty cover.

Most day's though I skip foundation and just wear mascara and eye-liner and a little lip gloss.
