I had this horribly grey, boring realization wash over me today when I unwrapped this pantsuit my ol man got me for xmas. which is that my wardrobe is about to get extremely drab and uncomfortable as I switch from jeans-t's-sneaks to suits-heels-briefcase (yeah I also got a black leather legal pad trapper keeper device and some fancyass silver pens for xmas as well.....)
this whole internship onward upward ordeal is starting to freak me out in its normalcy. its starting to feel very sterile and I can almost taste chalky tums.
so I hadthis idea. I wore my black osiris sneaks to one of my interviews and shit was fine. I had black dress pants and a nice longer kinda meshy gap sweater on. they told me my attire was perfect but I don't think they could see the goofy lil cartoon robot girl on the sides of the kicks. but then I thought, well shit. if I wear really nice garb on my bod, can I get away with some loud sneaks? what if I wore a suit with chucks? or some powder'blue high top reeboks? can I do that? plaid dc's? pink pumas? I have a sneaker fetish. can I rock it in the corporate environment???

I guess I should mention that I'm interning at a hospital in a few management departments. I imagine its a bit more lax given the setting- what with scrubs and all. makes for a less starchy environment... maybe. thoughts?
'Cause I'm that fool that broke the key- I'm unlockable so don't check me- I got weight on my shoulders and things on my mind- The sky is falling and I'm falling behind... No shame in my game just par for the path- I try to hone my craft because at hand's the task- But I find I'm not playing with a full deck- I'm up to my neck like Toulouse Lautrec

I'm thinking it depends on your boss. If your boss has a sense of humor and/or the setting is pretty casual, go for it, but if your boss wants professionalism [the type that includes ridiculously professional attire at all times], then no. I would give it a few weeks/months before trying it out though, so that they get to know you and know you're serious about the job and all that. A seasoned employee wearing fun sneakers might be more acceptable than a newbie rocking them, y'know?

Though if it were me, I'd stick with wearing fun earrings instead of loud sneakers.. 1. because I hate sneakers 2. because they look horrible with suits 3. because I personally don't mind looking put-together and professional and stuff. And 4. I love kooky earrings. I have troll earrings, I would love to wear them things with a pinstripe pantsuit, man. But still, only if my boss had a sense of humor and knew I was actually doing my job. Don't want to get fired over earrings. Or sneakers. I'd rather get paid and wear drab clothes for 8 hours a day than wear funky stuff and be broke. And you can still put on crazy outfits as soon as you get home even if you have to be all corporate at work. Don't let it get you down or stifle you. Anyway, IMO a nice suit and a good pair of heels can look cute/sexy as HELL and if you rock them, there's no way you'll just blend in with the crowd.

I'm very sleepy right now so hopefully this made sense. Sorry for the jumping around. Disclaimer the first paragraph is basically me speaking from a boss's perspective, not MY perspective because I personally know that sneakers =/= lack of professionalism but whatever.

Many of the attorneys I work with will wear really nice shoes in to work, but they keep a pair of sneakers in their desk. When they're not meeting with clients, they frequently switch over. Could you somehow pull that off in your work environments? Or are you up and about?

Other than that, your options include fancy socks, belt buckles, or ties. Only try to rock the silly tie once people take you seriously, though, otherwise you're the person with the weird ties.
