I wear them with just a shirt when I exercise. Also I think they're appropriate for travel (like on a plane or a long car ride), to the supermarket or chemist or something. I don't wear them when I go to dinner or anything. They're comfy and very casual. For me, they are interchangable with tracksuit pants.

saw a girl walking down the street on the weekend wearing leggings as pants, with a regular shirt. i not anti-leggings (i am rocking leggings under short dress at the moment) but I felt bad for this girl. She looked all cute in heels and maybe at home in the mirror she decided she was thin enough, but alas, from half a block away, waves of jiggle with every step. I kind of wanted to toss her a skirt or something to try and preserve her dignity. I think I will never be wearing leggings without butt-covering.

Depends on the leggings fabric. If they're denimish, then go for it. If they're nylon, don't go there. Leggings are great with long tops that'd look ridicilous with jeans.

Still wear leggings as pants, I hate jeans now because of them, everything else is just uncomfortable and makes me squirm. Crotch showing in leggings isn't really okay though, but never really applies to me because all of my shirts are long enough anyway. The only time i get away with wearing them with the crotch showing is when I wear tights underneath them for warmth and it gets rid of the crotchedy look, and then I wear coordinating knee high socks that cover the tights showing. Like for instance, I'm still into the 60's style since it goes well with my pixieish hair and so I wear outfits like this and wear a short sleeved black turtle neck top with the whole black leggings & tights ensemble, and wear these very dark gray with black floral design knee highs and black flats, and huge dangly earrings. It's hard to explain but I get a bazillion compliments when I wear this outfit. It's definitely how you wear them, I honestly think most people look retarded. There was a valley girl paris hilton wannabe in one of my french classes who was also at least 50lbs overweigh who loved wearing leggings and I was just like >.<
