Is it a bad idea/sign if you ask what your starting wages will be? I feel kind of iffy about doing this and im not sure if its just me or if that is just a bad thing to do in general. Any other job interview tips would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Not at all, that shows you're interested in money management, which could mean you're responsible. Ask when you'll be starting too, it shows you've got a grasp of time management.

Most of the time they will be straight with you about how much you will be paid, as they know it's a question everyone wants the answer to but are afraid to ask. If they don't tell you, chances are they aren't worth working for.

And yes, always ask when you would be starting, but almost always they will tell you that too.

Depending what you're getting into, they might tell you, or they might not because they might pay based on experience etc etc.

Its generally a good idea to ask, if they haven't said anything, however try not to be too eager. Leave it for the later end of the interview. As Tri said, they like to see you're interested in money, and money management, but you don't want them to think thats ALL you're interested in.

Just a simple "If I were to work here, how much would I be getting paid, and when will I be able to start" done.

I interview people, but it's for entry-level positions, so I don't know if it applies. At the end, I always ask if they have any questions, and I usually get the ones about how much they'll be paid and when they would start. I think those questions are fine. It shows that they're interested in the position, and that they're taking it seriously. However, the questions I certainly don't enjoy are, "How soon can I take time off?" and "How quickly can I move to a different position?" Certainly not things I like to hear in an interview...

Looking for a job today.........not much fun. I went into dollar tree and got hired on the spot. Gotta go in tomorrow at 2 and meet some guy named charlie. gotta remember his name. Say it with me now......CHARLIE. Anyway, i guess im gonna be stocking shelves to begin with. Only bad thing about this is the guy i talked to today asked me what hours i could come in and i told him anytime so he told me that my shift's gonna start at like 5 am. Damn thats early. Im gonna have to start waking up at like 4 to get ready.........grrrrrr. Gonna have to start going to bed earlier too (no more 4 am bed time). I hope that i'm gonna be free on the weekends because i like to go out and have a good time on weekends and if i have to wake up at 4 than its gonna be hard. Oh well, its money ya know? Only $7.00 to start (the guy told me he thinks that's what it'll be), but again, its money. Congrats to me!

the dollar tree? do not work there... i worked for the dollar store, and it was hell. use that job as a stepping stone. don't stay there forever. now is the perfect time to weezle your way into a company. they're hiring for christmas, so maybe if you work hard enough, they'll keep you.

More good news. I went to talk to the guy yesterday and he told me that i could start the week after thanksgiving. On the way home i stopped by dunkin donuts and got an application for the hell of it and the guy that im guessing is the manager talked to me for a few mins. He wants me to come in today for a 2 hour test run. He's gonna see how i work and how i do in those 2 hours (non-paid 2 hours), and if i do good, i have a full-time job there. Dollar tree isnt full time either, charlie told me that. Dunkin donuts is only paying $6.75 an hour versus dollar tree's $7.00. Its only a quarter, so i think im gonna go with dunkin donuts. Should be an easier job and i'll get more hours/make more money. Anyone have any input on this?

Yeah man. Got the job. I start Sunday from 1-4, and a couple more days next week. Its REALLY fast paced (i mean it is dunkin donuts/baskin robbins/nathans), so people are constantly coming and going. I think we had one little 5 min long period that no one was in the store. There's also LOTS to learn. Everyone orders coffee and everyone orders it a different way. Theres a coffee machine that dispenses all the cream & milk and everything else. Some of the other things that i have to learn are the register (if anyones every worked in this kind of place, you know how many different buttons & choices there are), and how to make frozen coffees and coolatas and how to make blasts (like a coffee slushy). I think i should have it down pretty quick though. Anyway, sorry bout my rant about nothing really, im just happy that i found something.

    Nice work man.
Better than hauling boards, cutting boards, and nailing boards all day.
    Wouldn't ya think?

    Meh.
I actually like breaking a sweat everyday.
    Makes me feel accomplished.
