    Studying Abroad In London

Hey guys. I just found out today that I'll be going to school in London from January 13th to April 30th. I'm going through a program called CAPA. I'll be taking classes there. I need a lot of help. Passport-never gotten one and I have the form, but how long does it take to get? What about airfare? I'm really freaked out about that. I've heard airfare for going abroad is really expensive. Any tips? Where should I go in London? What about the Chunnel to Paris? Is it any good? What is the best, cheapest way to get around to other countries in Europe like Scotland, Ireland, Italy and Germany? Thanks for all your help!

Hey, PM/email me for some specifics. I MIGHT be able to help with the airfare part, provided you're willing and able to fly standby. London is an awesome place to be, I love it there! I've also done the Chunnel train, it makes Paris a snap! Not too expensive either, as I recall.

    Cheers!

sounds like a great opportunity. I think it usually takes about 3 weeks to get a passport, but i'm basing that on Australian passports. could be something completely different. But they'll probably tell you when you put in your application. Good luck getting a nice passport photo. I think they try their best to avoid that happening

Yeah really, my passport picture looks like shiiiiit.

I think it's like 6 weeks for a passport? Maybe, I dunno. But I had to get mine expedited which is like 2 weeks, and 70$ more. So get on that.

Yes traveling is expensive. I bought my tickets to Nova Scotia 4-5 months in advance and it was still like 600$. Which Nova Scotia is only 6 hours away by flight. The longer you wait, the more expensive it'll be. When you start crossing the ocean is when it gets really expensive.

you're going to love it! London is the best city in the world. loads to do for free as well, you don't need to worry about it being too pricey.

where will you be living? Where will you be studying?

check out the megabus for the best way to get about the uk for cheap

EDIT, have a scan round here to get an idea of what you can find to do, and here for where you can go.

AnotherEDIT: i'd also recommend reading as much as you can about the history before you go, I think this is the book i read here it's a really compelling read, infact i'm kinda tempted to buy it now to read it again.

Hi, Atom's Package. Thanks for all your help. I will be living at a place called CAPA International. Apparently it's got flats and places where you can take classes. I will be taking general education classes. Question: Is there a Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in London? I wanted to see it when I was in New York and didn't get the chance.

Yes, Madame Tussauds is qwite teh awesome!

Passports can run 6 weeks or more, so deffo get started asap with that. Like Ghetto said, there is always the "expedited" method, but it's more costly. And DEF do not believe them when they tell you that the passport picture is cut at the neck. I had mine made in a ty-dyed t shirt, they told me that and I said what the heck they won't see my shirt. EPIC FAIL. I look like a fuckin' hippy lol.

The best way to travel is by plane (but I mean cheap airlines, the conditions aren't really great but it is still the best way to travel), you can also try hitchhiking it's legal and it's fun! Theoretically it's not legal everywhere, like for example in France, but still I did hitchhike there and nothing happened, also I heard that in the Balkans you usually have to pay some money to the person who takes you, but I guess this region doesn't really interest you. If you're coming to Europe and you want to travel a bit, then you should definitely go to Paris, though I would advise going there rather closer to April than to January. If you are between 18 and 26 then you don't pay for the entrances to the most important museums either in the whole Europe or in European Union, I'm not sure now. The Channel Tunnel- you'd pay from 50 to 100 EURO for one-way ticket in 2nd class, depending on the day and hour. The cheapest tickets are for around 40 EURO, but those cheap tickets cannot be exchanged and if you don't use the ticket then it's your problem, they won't give you your money back, the exchangeable tickets are for around 200 EURO.

Oh, and if you want to travel you should create a profile on couchsurfing.com or hospitality.com, this way you won't have to pay for hotel/motel. If you register there (it's free) you can sleep at someone's place for free for a few days. It's totally safe, I tried this, one of my friends (girl) tried this even when she was traveling alone. Plus it's a great way of meeting new people who can show you some awesome places. I'm not advertising those websities, it's just that I'm in love with them Though if you travel alone it's better not to go to guys who live alone, especially not to Arab guys- not that I have something against Arab people. I don't know which of the sites is better, I used only couchsurfing.com, but from what I know hospitality.com is just as good as couchsurfing.com

I like Sidestep for comparing flight prices. I was looking at airfare to London a couple of weeks ago because i was thinking of visiting my fam during winterbreak and the prices werent horrible.

Atom's suggestions were great. I have nothing to add besides English chocolates are better than Americans.

You never got back to me on the city you're traveling from, etc. etc. I also need to know if flying standby is acceptable to you. Let me know by PM or email and I'll do what I can. Ask Greaser, Ester or Catter if you have any doubts, I've hooked them up before.

Likes, I responded on your profile and sent you a message (I think)--I'm having trouble adjusting to the new site. I just got my airline ticket yesterday. My grandparents, God bless them, bought my ticket for me. It was only $780.00, so I didn't think it was that bad.
