Actually, we kill animals in the nicest way of any creature on the planet. I can't imagine being bitten to death while struggling is particularly pleasant, yet we make documentaries of this and say it's completely normal. Because it is. We're just better and more efficient at it, so it suddenly becomes wrong.

I like my meat, and I honestly don't care where it comes from. I'm totally cool with taking the moral low ground on this one and neither take kindly to being preached at nor care very much about what stupid reasons people have for being vegans. So clearly I don't think this is a big deal.

    a) that's obviously an aside to my point, and you've obviously not understood what i meant, we also kill animals (usually human) in the most horrible way of any creature and with intent that could best be described as evil. I'm not saying that most slaughter methods are cruel, but that I think it's crass to blithely pass off the concept and importance of killing an animal humanely. in fact i guess semantically it's saying you don't care about being human

    b) who's preaching here? apart from to say live how you want and let others do the same. i don't give a crap what you do, but to take away the opportunity for someone else to do something that they do want to do (and something with relitively few negative connetations) is far far worse than preaching, it's going one step further. can't you see it's hypocritical and selfish to jump up and get annoyed about being preached at, then say you couldn't give a fuck about something much nastier. or does your 'renowned logic' disappear when it comes to empathy?

Like, firstly yes there is a difference between killing something as quickly and painlessly as possible and not, i don't like the word humane as i don't know of any other species that has even invented one horrible way to kill something else, but we have. but obviously you could cause an animal a substantial amount of pain and stress before you killed it. but that's the point where the FBI put you on a list because it's psychologically proven to be a symptom of being a fucking psycho.
I was ripping on the fact that "humane slaughter" is an oxymoron, and I'm sorry that you didn't get it.

secondly, stop being such a fucking dick dude, you're the first to get on your high horse if someone mindlessly insults something you care about, why do you feel you have to be so hypocritical and rude every time someone mentions this subject?
I think you have me confused with someone else.

Ok fine...I eat meat. I've never pretended otherwise. How is that being hypocritical?

Anyway, we've derailed the flock outta this topic.

Oh hey Atom, that was just a general comment and not directed at you specifically, sorry that you took it that way. My point about preaching was that a lot of people, including some in this thread, hold that they are somehow better people because they don't eat meat, or at least that everyone else is worse if they do. This is at worst a pretty harmless joke, but it wasn't even played as one - they were trying to help her out and I think health trumps some arbitrary belief. I was just stating how little weight I think it holds.

As for killing animals, I draw a pretty specific line between species. There's a heirachy and we're at the top of it. That doesn't mean we should do anything we want, but I think most of the practices in the food industry aren't a big deal and no reason to boycott very tasty foods.

If you'd have asked the chick 'do you want to drink some milk to help your heartburn', she would have said 'no'. Everybody involved knew that to be the case but gave her the milk anyway. Drunk or not, it was stilla a fucking dumb thing to do.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

Um yep? So is sleeping with someone's girlfriend/boyfriend...drunk or sober. Pointing out the obvious to me doesn't really do much. I made a mistake, I'm well aware, whether someone chooses to believe that I'm a terrible person because of it is of their own accord.

And then this perception evolves to situations like the Rwandan genocide where the world didn't give a shit because Rwanda offers them nothing of interest so if one race of people is being wiped out with no way to escape it, so be it because it doesn't affect us. Human lives become weighted on whether they're important enough or in our own personal interest to care about.

How we treat animals is a reflection on how we treat each other as human beings.

    Yes, I've played practical jokes.

Say someone spiked your ice cream with the cum of five of your mates (that actually happened to a friend of mine, my cum wasn't involved). Funny for them, not so funny for you, right?

And this wasn't a practical joke.

Actually, there are thousands of people considerably more intelligent than your aspergic self, who belief that the way we treat the 'lowest' beings on the planet is a reflection of what kind of people we are.

bleh, long drunken day yesturday and up at 4:30 with the young'n, sorry was in a slightly angry mood this morning.

but both of you (like and gosu) are terrible for jumping into any conversation about vegetarianism with some uncalled for statement about how much you don't care about eating animals. we get it, if i was to do the same thing pro veggie i would get fucking slated by everyone (especially by the two of you)

also, funnily enough tri, i was going to ask gosu about autism this morning

Sorry for being so mean before, Ghetto. You sometimes get all uppity, and I was putting my criticism in such a way that if you had, I would've gone into pretty much what Trionix said to Gosu. When he got all uppity like he sometimes does. That's all I was getting at. Pre-emptive arguing!

Yes, it was a drunken mistake, and that kind of thing happens. I could probably write a book with all the drunken mistakes I've made in my life. The point is to realize what you've done and never make that particular mistake again.

Note: Gosu and Tri, thanks for doing that whole argument for us, that's one less thing I have to do.

My point is that because I don't care about eating meant and don't hold the arguments against it in high regard I don't regard what Ghetto did as even remotely heinous.
