Wait, really? It's visible? Woa! I try to do that sort of thing when I go to the beach, even though I know it's just my imagination I like to pretend I can see the curve of the earth.. is it genuinely visible there? Because if it is, then it is officially up there with the northern lights in things I want to see before I die. Holy crap that's awesome!

So... tomatoes it turns out, are carnivorous.
Attack of the killer tomatoes - Science, News - The Independent

Being as they absorb nutrients from the insects they trap, if you're a vegetarian and you eat tomatoes, you're actually eating animals.

Another one off the list, I'm afraid.

I'm preeetty sure you can't see the curvature of the Earth on those salt flats. Obviously you have a horizon so you can see objects appear and disappear there but as for looking east-west and seeing the curvature of the earth? Nope. You want to get to an altitude of about 60,000 ft. to get a view of that.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

I think this might just have been the best line in this whole thread.

Moving on to carnivorous tomatoes. I googled what aphids were- what a mistake. Gross little critters, now i dont feel bad that tomatoes use them to self fertilize. I wonder if genetically modified tomatoes and potatoes are carnivores. Does anyone know?

Forget the tomatoes eating the aphids! What about all of the animals which are killed by the pesticides used on the food we eat? Farming machinery kills plenty of animals such as mice, rabbit and birds, and land-clearing and general agriculure killsn thousands of creatures.

What it boils down to is integrity. It is a matter of respecting another's choices. It obviousley bothers you that you did this, so learn from it and let it go.

I don't understand why you couldn't let her decide whether to drink actual milk just this time to get rid of the heartburn. The terrible thing you guys did was treating her like a child.

    I looked into this once.
$3.50 for a gallon from a bleeding, depressed, tortured cow at the local market, and $11.50 from the local farm, still warm and straight from the udder of a giddy cow.
It had a warning label on it saying it could be contaminated with harmful bacteria cuz it's 110% natural.

    F that.
