Looks like Hamas won't be denouncing terrorism any time soon. And Abbas can't legally step in, despite the fact that he, and every other mainstream party in Palestine, refuse to co-operate with Hamas.The intended interior minister in Hamas's government has said he will not order the arrest of fighters carrying out attacks against Israel.
Saeed Seyam, who was chosen by Hamas to oversee three security services, told Reuters on Thursday that "the file of political detention must be closed".
"The day will never come when any Palestinian would be arrested because of his political affiliation or because of resisting the occupation ...
"But the right to defend our people and to confront the aggression is granted and is legitimate."
Seyam said he had begun talks with Palestinian security chiefs in the hope of averting fighting within the security services.[/b]

What do Hamas actually hope to achieve by this??? Fucking hell. It's not really hard to see that unless Hamas denounces terrorism, they're going to be ignored by just about everyone. What is the fucking point? They're letting down the Palestinians.

Hamas support terrorism because they (somehow) think that's going to help them get the land they see as being theirs, back from Israel (to benefit the Palestinian people).
There is an idea which has cropped up every now and again, in different parts of the world (Nazism in Germany, Pol-Pot in Cambodia, Extreme Islamism in the Middle East) that if you have a goal which you see as divine or all-important, then any means you decide to use to achieve that goal become justified. This is the problem that we have. Extreme Islamists think that it doesn't matter how many people you kill as long as you get your perfect society at the end of it. Neo-Conservatives believe it's okay to lie, cheat, steal and kill anyone you like....as long as you get your perfect society. Nazis believed you could just kill all of the Jews because it would lead to better society etcetera etcetera.... It's all the same.

Personally, I don't understand why Hamas is stating this right now - I mean, it's no secret that they want to destroy Israel, but it seems to me like it would be a better tactic for them to wait a little...get stronger and come out with some "official statements" so they can get $ from europe. They should also focus on domestic improvements first, to get the support of the people. Then they should come out with this statement, and openly acknowledge that they won't do anything about the terrorists and want to get rid of Israel.
In no means am I advocating Hamas...I just don't think it's the smartest move for them right now.
