Boy am I dissapointed.
Some of my favourite directors and actors have - for some stupid fucking reason - decided to sign a petition damning the arrest of Roman Polanski last month. Now, I love the Pianist, it's a great film and you've got the incredible Chinatown and Rosmary's Baby too. Great films by a very talented director. However, I cannot understand how the man's body of work can excuse what he did. So I'm pretty sickened and disgusted by the list of people who say that actually, it's OK to fuck little kids as long as you're a talented artist. People like:-
Woody Allen (understandable seeing as he's married to his fucking daughter)
Pedro Almodovar
Wes Anderson
Darren Aronofsky
Monica Belluci (you'd think she'd have a stand on statutory anal rape)

Martin Scorcese (maybe he wanted to fuck Jodie Foster on the set of Taxi Driver)

It's not even as if Polanski is ashamed of what he did. In an interview afterwards he said (paraphrased) "I like many other men, I would wager, am attracted to young women." Wow, what a defence for fucking raping a 13 year old child IN THE ASS. And it's unbelievable that the above people (and many more) somehow think that this act of child drugging and fucking was somehow absolutely fine and it's the Swiss/US authorities who are wrong for daring to arrest their talented pal.
I didn't see any letters for Gary Glitter signed by Pete Waterman, Simon Cowell and Howard from Take That but then I guess Glitter came in just below the talent threshold when it becomes okay to fuck children. Sorry, to RAPE children because the girl he RAPED was given champagne and 'ludes and repeatedly asked him to stop.
Perhaps the worst apologist was Whoopi Goldberg. This wretched whore had the fucking guts to go on TV and say 'Yeah, but it wasn't rape rapre, y'know?' and then embarked upon the flimsiest defence of a child rapist of all time, in the process getting her ass handed to her by some dumb chicks on a daytime talk show. I agree. Its absolutely horrible. I can't think of anything that would justify doing what he did. and sometimes you hear the excuse that it happened so long ago, that we shouldn't worry about it anymore. If it was anyone else who wasn't a celebrity, they wouldn't be able to get away with it.

I heard a defence that his family was killed by Nazi's and his wife was killed by a Charles Manson follower. I appreciate that he was going through a very tough time, but I'm aware that some of the Charles Manson followers, who have been in jail this whole time, are now seeking to be released. Would he be down with that? I would go into detail but I have to go to netball. This whole thing makes me so angry I don't even want to think about it. I feel sickened that people are defending him.

Whoopi Goldberg made herself look like a total dick. The next day she made something of a retractment where she said that she was trying to talk about what he was [i]charged[i] with and not what everyone else says he did. The thing is though, rape charges are notoriously hard to prosecute when there's no physical evidence of abuse (bruising from being held down etc...) and you come back to the old 'his word vs. hers' scenario. Now the word of a millionnaire Holywood director with rich and powerful friends is worth more than that of a 13 year old girl. So Polanski took a plea-bargain whereby he'd plead guilt to a lesser charge (basically statutory rape). Anybody who takes the plea-bargain more seriously than the words of the rape victim needs their head sorting out.
Sharon Tate (Polanski's wife) was killed a full 8 years before all of this hapenned. Him ass-raping a child has nothing to do with that anyway. He's stated in interviews thatr he doesn't think he should be punished simply because of his attraction to, and sex with 'young women' as he puts it.

They had a documentary on this on HBO a while ago. It was pretty good, although it felt a bit like they were fighting his battle for him. They even had the woman that was raped (I only said woman because she's an adult now) explaining that she wanted the charges dismissed. Well, good thing it's not up to her. Not to mention the fact that she was paid off by him (as far as I know).
The one thing that's debatable is how the plea agreement that they had arranged got all messed up. But that's just grounds for appeal. Not a "get out of jail free" card.

I think that petition is pretty messed up. It doesn't make sense to me that it would get all those signatures. He raped a kid, ran off dragging everything out, and now they are crying that the extradition process will take away his freedom.
With regards to the victim's claim that she wants the charges dismissed. Wouldn't you? The jerk ran off, dragging all of this out for decades. Now she has reporters on her lawn all over again. I would want to forget about it too - she's moved on with her life and doesn't want people focusing on her being raped how many years ago. I think that's a natural reaction but just means this all needs to be handled quickly.
It does seem pretty silly however, that they waited until now to arrest him. It is kind of tacky that they arrested him on the way to the film festival where he was to win an award. Way to garuntee media circus.
