The ex husband in the article said the girl has emotional problems. That combined with a tantrum so bad that the police are called. I do tend to think the mom is somehow partly at fault for that stuff escalating to that point, but I don't know. And I do tend to agree that pills for kids are not often the answer (maybe sometimes they just need diffferent parents) but point is, try to get the kid and the parent some professional help not start her out at 10 yo with a criminal record. If the mom is already at her wits end at the first signs of adolescenet hormones they are pretty screwed. Or the girl really does need psychiatric help.
That's exactly what I did to be honest. I'm just shocked that a police officer was invited to taser a child by her mother. That's why I think this is a case of bad parenting. I dunno, I can totally visualize all this stuff going down. My sister regularly went on rampages as a teenager like in the article, and my brother and I would have to hide in our rooms to avoid shit being thrown at us. My parents sucked in many ways but my sister can be straight violent and crazy. I consider myself fairly sane but everyone has limits to the amount of psycho they can handle. So I feel like I can see both sides, yet still think that everybody involved is wrong.
I think a lot of it is the parents feeling like oh, she's bad, we need a showdown. You never teach them the need to cool off when upset if every problem must be attended to now.

Awards: Okay, well if you've considered both sides then you're clearly flat out ignoring the human element here.
It's like, when Israel kicks off on Palestine, you can totally understand why young Palestinian men become murderers, and you have sympathy for them because you're willing to look at the reasons why. But when this happens you get more caught up in straight up judging the mother, rather than being sympathetic towards any causes that might exist.
Obviously it's not a perfect comparison, so let's not wander off down that road for the sake of it, but it is an interesting contradiction.
