Dealing with the next banking crisis

Lord Myners here in the UK has come out saying that banks should have to pay a special insurance (in essence a tax) which would go towards providing bail-out money for the next banking crisis which is of course inevitable. This would mean that taxpayers like you and me wouldn't have to foot the bill for the fúck-ups of greedy wankers in the future.

I understand Obama has implemented something similar in the US in the hopes of raising 100 Billion or so for the next time bankers play the system until it collapses.

    What do you think?
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

    Good policy.

I wonder if knowing they have to pay into some sort of fund would actually make them more cautious.

It's this whole get rich quick bubble causing mentality they have. Up, up, up, up and then it comes crashing down around their ears. And ours. It's irresponsible and I don't think that the taxpayers should have to pay for their idiocy.

I'd also like to see the US put Glass-Steagall back into place. That's one of the major players in this whole fiasco - it's repeal in '99. I like Clinton for a lot of things, but for that one - I could kick him square in the nuts.

Seems like they ought to pay somehow, doesn`t it? Any other business would simply go bankrupt as fair punishment for failure. Here we have a system that not only failed, but HAS to be preserved, AND the engineers of said failure actually are getting bonuses... for FAILURE.

Somehow some scourging seems in order. Heck, the Texicans execute the retarded. Couldn`t we get the National Razor out for the willfully stupid?

Great profit really really really needs to engender great risk.
Ayuh, not dead yet. Might change that with an S1000RR though

my only problem with all of this is that it will ultimately cost the tax payers. If banks have to pay a tax for the next bail out who do you think they will pass that cost on to? Us.

I know what you mean, but aren't you tired of being held hostage by the banks? I'm not quite at the F it moment, but pretty damn close.

They will always pass on additional expenses - if allowed. But that's the thing, they are always allowed to at this point. And I fear with the recent supreme court ruling we'll be held by the nutsack more than ever. But it doesn't mean I won't fight against them. I want them to be responsible. We have to be, so why are they exempt? Why is it that shit always has to roll down hill - especially when it comes to cleaning up their messes?

At this point, everyone is afraid of extra costs incurred - and not without justification - but I don't want to see that fear paralyze us. The banks know they have us by the short hairs. Must we reinforce that belief?

I know that as soon as I have paid off all of my loans I intend to turn the tables on them. They will be at my disposal instead of the other way around.

They provide a service. It doesn't make them gods.

I am not saying that it shouldn't be done. I just think that politicians should be upfront about it.
"We are doing this and we know you will be bent over and take it up the ass. However we think this will save money in the long run."
It was like Obama passing the credit card law and then credit cards turning around and hiking interest rates up, putting fees back on cards again just for having it, inactivity fees, etc. Yet he said "This will not cost the taxpayers anything."
