The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler
We'll be fine with it once the new James Bond movie comes out.
"Shit happens. Character is how you react to it."
I'd be very comfortable.
I wouldn't mind if it went to reverse-engineering alien technology but it's more likely going on monitoring people's phone-lines and internet and blowing up villages in Yemen.

What's another 56 billion compared to a deficit that's in the trillions? At this point it's like being a millionaire and getting upset over losing a quarter down the drain. Especially when I know our military spending is ridiculously high to being with-- 56 billion more? Meh.
save the billions and the trillions will look after themselves.
Tia, that's a really silly attitude, of course you will build up trillions worth of debt if you are so blase about billions.
on a more human level would you throw around tens of thousands just because you are already in hundreds of thousands worth of debts?
$56 billion is like 50-60% of the education budget. I'm sure that there are plenty of schools which could do with some of that $56,000,000,000.
It just seems harsh that the Pentagon gets so much money to spend on whatever the fuck it wants, whether that's legal, in the public interest or whatever. However, if $56 Billion was going to help the needy or the homeless then people would be up in arms about it.

While it bothers me, I am much more irritated about the money being poured down that stink hole of the middle east.
COSTOFWAR.COM - The Cost of War
A complete and utter waste of money.
While I typed this post we have spent about $100,000. Gone. In the blink of a post.

It's unbelievable isn't it. Where are our priorities??? Obama's health-care reforms got completely fucked and people are freaking out at the amount of money being thrown at keeping the population alive and healthy. However, you tell the Senate/Congress that you're going off to war in a far-away land and you can't stop the cash flowing.
A grenade launcher would pay for cancer care for someone.

I don't understand where our priorities are either. The money spent in the middle east to stop terrorism has done nothing but increase the likelihood of a terrorist attack in my estimation. We won't fund schools properly, we won't watch tend to our veterans properly and we can't even take care of our infrastructure. But we will spend billions upon billions of dollars on wars that serve no good purpose.
I'd like to knock some heads together.
