Liberals and atheists have a higher IQ

Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs. This applied also to sexual exclusivity in men, but not in women. The findings will be published in the March 2010 issue of Social Psychology Quarterly.

The IQ differences, while statistically significant, are not stunning -- on the order of 6 to 11 points -- and the data should not be used to stereotype or make assumptions about people, experts say. But they show how certain patterns of identifying with particular ideologies develop, and how some people's behaviors come to be.

The reasoning is that sexual exclusivity in men, liberalism and atheism all go against what would be expected given humans' evolutionary past. In other words, none of these traits would have benefited our early human ancestors, but higher intelligence may be associated with them.

    Knew it.

That's the important part I reckon.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

In the U.S. some of the most illiterate states are the most religious.

But they focus on what is important! this is classic here: The Natchez Democrat - Mississippi focuses on what matters

    pseudo, that is hilarious!

From poverty and illiteracy to obesity and heart disease Mississippi always seems to find itself at the top of the bad lists or at the bottom of the good lists.
But last week, just before the nation paused to celebrate the birth of Christ, Mississippi made a No. 1 appearance on perhaps the only list that will ultimately matter.

    ..............

The Magnolia state found itself at the top of all four of the measurements they studied:
    • 82 percent of Mississippians reported that religion was “very important in their lives.” Sadly, the national average was only 56 percent.
    • Six out of 10 said they attend religious services at least once a week.
    • 77 percent said they pray at least once a day.
    • A whopping 91 percent said they believe in God with “absolute certainty.”

I'd love go know what illiterate, recneck version of the Bible some of those guys are getting. "And Jesus went to Iraq and died on the cross to stop the Muslims and the gays".
I believe what it boils down to is what occupies one's mind space. It is also my opinion that statistics, proven or other wise, are useless. A good many of these statistical datas have hidden agendas, which are also useless, in my opinion.

Exempt from my previous opinion; mathamatical science. And the computer. I spouted off before I fully thought about it.

    Proven statistics are useless?

Not saying that this article has statistics that prove anything at all, but...

    Proven statistics are useless?

Oh Trionix, I know I sound like a person with a paper arse. I did correct my self with math and the science of numerical statistics, and with a wider range of statistics from a wider source, rather than selected areas.....computer statistics tend to be a wee bit more relevant to subjects, but still useless in most cases. One can gather all kinds of statistics, mostly to see what is in the mix. Doing something with these statistics is quite another subject. Most are not random, and the outcome is fairly known prior to all this bull pucky useless going through the motion.

Gutter, you have something there!!! I may be wrong, often am, I believe that the I.Q. test has almost become obsolete, due to flaws. I must have done pretty well back when all school kids were administered these tests. All I ever heard all throughout my adolecent school years was, "why are you not working up to your potential, your tests tell us you are capable of so much more. You must apply yourself, young lady or you will never get anywhere in life." Now just what was I suppose to do with that, when I knew I was doing all that I was capable of. It could have affected me for life had I been a more sensitive person. It did give me a different perspective in regards to adults in athoratative positions. There is intellegent and there is smart and to take one step farther there is intellegently smart.
