Dude, it's not what your opinion is, it's how you express it. When you come out with 'health care isn't a human right' you're essentially stating fact. If you said something like, 'I don't think health care should be considered a human right' then that's open to debate. But you just make those stupid statements which means that we only get to actually discussing anything once a few people have said 'what a stupid fucking thing to say' and then you finally go on to make some sort of explanation.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

I thought it was pretty obvious that when I say something, it should be assumed to be my opinion, unless I'm attributing it to someone/thing else. I just go for the punchiest phrasing and slapping a redundant "I think" in front of every statement just seems clumsy and a bit ridiculous. S-B seems to be the only place I go that doesn't make that assumption, which I've never been able to get, so we keep going over this. It's just how I explain things, even people I've just met get that I'm just expressing opinion.

How many times have you said exactly that now Gosu, in all your years here?

Every time you state your opinion as fact, every time you get pulled up on it, and every time you churn out the same little speech. Then you're careful for a while, and then you do it again.

I don't think I've ever met anyone so repetitive or predictable.

The speech has the added bonus of being, y'know, true.

And I'm not stating anything as fact. I'm just not dressing it up to your satisfaction. (And I don't care).

If you really think that my problem is that you have a different opinion to me, you truly have imbibed absolutely nothing I've ever written, ever.

Don't backtrack you did state it as a fact and that is a fact!

Archer- LBJ was fascinating but i can't wait until Kennedy's health records are made public.

To play devil's advocate here.... If Gosu saying that it is not a human right is his opinion and should be stated as such, wouldn't the opposite be true as well? The whole thing came about because True said that it is a human right and she didn't preface it by saying, "In my opinion..." So, I'm just kind of wondering why Gosu is the only one getting lectured for it? Is this all due to a history with Gosu? I'm really curious about this and I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass about it. I totally disagree with Gosu's "opinion," but that's not the point.

are you talking about the universal declaration of human rights? if you are, it's still article 25, even since last time i told you that it is article 25.
    EDIT ok, with you...

And you do do the whole 'state a fact, then get annoyed and call it only your opinion when people pull you up'

this is a message board that relies on written words, which means you have to be semantically accurate to get your meaning across. which means if you're talking about your opinion, you need to clarify that, rather than making it look a lot like you're stating it as a fact. people can't magically work out your implications and nuances over the interweb.

As in ammendments 1-10 of the US Constitution (the country in question here).

    And what Aimee said.

That he doesn't consider it a fundamental human right. I'd point out that one can not believe it's a right, and still feel it's the correct policy.

Sure you can. If it makes good sense and helps the country run better, and improves people's lives then it's worth at least considering as a policy platform. Things don't have to be rights to be a good idea.

I just dont get the point of trying to argue against it being a human right or not when you're not against it in general.
You know how this site works; the unspoken tones and how people react to things...

Because it matters why you're for or against something just as much as whether you are or not.
