Israeli Prime Minister Pulls out of Nuclear Conference

Benjamin Netinyahu, the Israeli PM has pulled out of the US nuclear summit which starts on Monday. And the reason? Well, it's simply that he found out that Egypt and Turkey might want to raise a few questions about Israel's nuclear arsenal and will urge Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty. Apparently, this constitutes 'slamming Israel' and is no doubt nothing to do with nukes at all but is all about certain countries wanting to finish off the work Hitler started because they're all dirty anti-Semites.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

I find it bizarre that we can, on a day by day basis, be informed of Iran's nuclear programme, where it is, how many centrifuges they have, how big they are, how many workers are at each site, and how close they are to getting nukes, yet for some strange reason, we still 'don't know' whether Israel has nukes or not.

Do you reckon it might be the fear of confirming it and actually giving countries like Iran a 'legitimate' reason for having their own nuclear programs?

How can major powers like the USA tell Iran not to develop nukes if Iran is facing a very real threat of a nuclear attack from Israel?

Obviously everybody knows Israel has the nukes anyway though.... I suppose when you have two sides squaring off against each other you end up with a more unstable situation than you do if you just have one side armed with WMDs.

    Certainly.

It's basically there as a backup deterrent to keep the state of Israel safe, and in order to survive it needs one, because obviously Israel is built on someone else's property. Strange how the all-American belief in the 'right to kill to defend one's property' doesn't seem to extend outside of America's borders.

Yes and no. It's not that Israeli nukes make Iranian nukes legitimate. It's that Israeli nukes make it hard to argue that Iranian nukes are illegitimate. And Iran doesn't face a threat of nuclear attack from Israel (and, as a matter of fairness, if/when Iran possesses nuclear weapons, it doesn't pose a threat to Israel either).
