Apple iPhone released on Toronto - and the people rejoiced

So hundreds of people lined up to pray at the iAltar today - http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2...le-iphone.html

I gotta say, I'm as techno-envious as the next guy but this is fucked up in so many ways. I get that the latest and greatest is in big demand but come on - waiting in line for hours, camping out over night? And you know that next month/year whatever, they'll will do it again when Jobs offers the next technical trinket from on high.

As long as you hold it right, right Steve?

I would get an iPhone, if I didn't hate ATT's guts. I love the apps, but the phone itself sounds shitty. Or, that may be due to ATT's wonderful network.

stuff is just stuff. your emotional health is much more important. holding raging anger in is more harmful than your faggot-assed tv that probably deserves to get its ass beat anyway.

I have had aan iPhone for a while and I recently upgraded to the new one. Say what you want about it, but it seriously is a life changing piece of equipment. I ended up switching to AT&T, because I was having some problems with my jailbroken iPhone on TMobile. I've always been one of those people that is itching for a new phone. I have no desire at all for a new phone now. There's absolutely nothing I need or want that I can't get on my phone. I haven't had any problems with reception or service (in fact, I've had better service than I did on Tmobile), even when I don't "hold the phone right." Would I stand in line for hours to get one? Absolutely not. I have no problem waiting for my new phone. But I will say that it's quite obnoxious that the "limited supply" happens every time they release a new product. It's intentional, no doubt.

It's interesting how the only people I've found to not like/hate the iPhone are people that have never owned one.

Budget notwithstanding, I'd love to have one myself if it works as well as it is supposed to but the feeding frenzy is what always gets me.

I got my new iPhone in the mail a week and a half ago. I love it! I upgraded from the iPhone 2G and it's a million times faster. Just waiting on the new jailbreak to be released and tested and I'll have my Star Wars sounds back from Cydia.

I never have trouble with the service out in Colorado, only this past week out here in middle of nowhere Iowa and Wisconsin but that's to be expected I think.

They're very nice indeed and I am very torn because I do really want one, but the thing is that if I got one, I'd actually want to use it and sadly, using it kills your battery pretty quickly!
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

The battery on the new one definitely lasts a lot longer than on my last one and I think I heard that was one of the improvements they were making. Of course, that could all be attributed to the fact that it's a brand new phone and that's how it works. But Brew....you can do this really cool thing when the battery starts to die. You can charge it!

You can't charge it when you're on a bus or a train or in the pub or just outside in general though. The battery hasn't got to the point where you can use all the functions on the phone for an extended period of time without needing to charge it at some point during the daytime (or at least not to the level of use I'd want). I love the whole idea of smart phones but i really prefer not having to charge my phone all the time... and I wouldn't be using it at home because I have a computer and an internet connection.

Yeah, that's a good point. I suppose I don't use mine enough throughout the day to need to charge it more than once per day/night. And I am home enough that I can charge it at home. I was going to sell my old phone, but I ended up keeping it and I use it for Isabelle. It works out great because she can use it as much as she wants (not that I let her use it all day or anything....) and my phone doesn't lose it's charge. The phone has been great to keep her entertained while in the grocery store, a doctor's office, in the car, etc.
