America's got roots steeped in Puritanism, and it's only ickle to be fair, it's not overly surprising that Christianity plays such a part in peoples lives.

I totally agree with Spike, I think many Christians saw voting as a way to retain the moral values of America. The Americans here seem pretty much united in wanted America to stop interfering overseas, and start sorting out its internal problems. But like, when millions of people think that solving a problem internally is achieved by consulting the bible, anyone who steps outside of the lines (or is accused of it) is instantly discounted as a possible aid to their cause.

One of the key rules that I can see from the bible, is to spread the word. This is what the Christians ideally want to see happen, they're happy if people follow other religions, but if everyone switched to Christianity, that'd be fantastic. With reports coming in of the Christian Bush setting up democracies overseas, the more ignorant of them believe that the man is spreading the word of Christ to the 'untouchables' of this world.

Like, if you're an ignorant Christian, I'm sure that's all perfectly acceptable, after all, you're saving people from going to hell. If you're an outsider however, it's fucking terrifying.

Dude, the Soviet Union killed a lot more than Christians ever have. The Nazis killed a lot, too, as did Pol Pot in Cambodia, not to mention the Chinese. What's the unifying thread among these 4? Atheism.

I can't tell if you're serious or not
But I know that hitler believed by killing Jews he was doing the lords work. Thats not very atheist.
I'll assume you're not serious.

Meh, I hesistated bringing Hitler into it because I knew that was not as open and shut a case of atheism as the others. I believe he was an atheist, perhaps he did manipulate Christian sentiment to carry out his plans, which is probably still a small stain on Christianity, but I'm not sure I buy it. It wasn't like the Crusades, for instance, which were blatantly religious in nature. Hitler was trying to bring about atheist causes. Whatever, pretend I didn't mention Hitler, I don't want to get side-tracked.

Look at the big genocides, the big massacres, most of them are atheist in nature.
Statistics are like prisoners, torture them long enough and they'll tell you whatever you want to hear.

For the record, all I've ever really known (practiced) in my own life is Christianity and it drives me BONKERS that Bush is so religious and pushes it on the country. The country was founded on the freedom of religion... which to me, is freedom of choice... and he tries to put laws through that are in corrolation to his personal beliefs.

Ya'll pardon me if I sound like I'm talking out of my ass a little... I kind of am. I'm still learning. I know Bush is religious, I know he uses it as a means to keep his power and I know he pushes it on the country. I hate that.

I don't think christianity is ruining America. Maybe religion but not christianity. But then I tend to separate the two, ironically enough.

Heh, if anything is ruining America it is the moral divide. The difference between humanist and biblical moralities.

We've got two opposite ends of the spectrum operating in this country with a pretty much 50/50 split. And it's being made worse by politics.

I am curious how this will play out in the upcoming years.

This is a rather illogical agruement. You are attempting to make generalization about Christians as a whole. Would you consider it fair if I called a black men drug dealers? How about all Indians own hotels?

Well, if black men and Indians had as violent and disgusting a history as Christians did, I would say that it'd be a very fair generalization.

There is a long line of black people commiting most of the crime. Using your "logic", all blacks are criminals.

Most crime throughout history was committed by black people? Any stats or any kind of a source for that which doesn't come from a KKK website.
