This is a rather illogical agruement. You are attempting to make generalization about Christians as a whole. Would you consider it fair if I called a black men drug dealers? How about all Indians own hotels?
    <div align="right"><{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well, if black men and Indians had as violent and disgusting a history as Christians did, I would say that it&#39;d be a very fair generalization.
    <div align="right"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></div>

There is a long line of black people commiting most of the crime.
    <div align="right"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></div>
Most crime throughout history was committed by black people? Any stats or any kind of a source for that which doesn&#39;t come from a KKK website.

Blacks made up 13% of the population, according to the last census.

According to the Justice Department, they make up 50% of the prison population.

Perhaps you should also look up other demographic statistics. Such things like poverty, education, annual incomes, infrastructure development in black communities compared to white communities... etc.

And while you&#39;re at it, you should also look up the studies done on racism and the justice departments around the US.

Your mind can only hold one thought at a time. Make it a positive and constructive one.

All of the oppression and death that has been caused by the church though, it actually isn&#39;t a random thing. It&#39;s fact. Fair enough, that may be no reason to hate the church of today, but it&#39;s still fact.

It was white people who enslaved the Native Americans and the Africans....does that give them a good reason to hate white people?

No,it doesn&#39;t give them a good reason. But I didn&#39;t say the history of the church was a good reason to dislike the church. In fact, I stated the opposite.
Most people I know don&#39;t dislike the church because of the past. They don&#39;t like it because of the way it is now.

Or, should we say, people speaking in the name of the church. We were not around during the Crusades. We dont know if they had the support of the average church-goer.

Actually, Dying, I&#39;m pretty sure America was designed to be a secular nation. At least, I think.

Aaaa someone speaks the truth! Not one christain is the same just as not one jew is the same, one athiest, one muslim, one anything. I am christian but non-denominational which is completley different from the extream catholics or the "christain" people running our nation. The religion has almost nothing to do with the person as much as it is the person themselves. Bush is an idiot because he is an idiot, not because he is a christian. It just happens that as an idiot he has taken his religion and used it in an idiotic way. If a good person were a christian they would use their religion in a good way.

I would first like to respond to the remark that people shouldn&#39;t focus so much on Christianity, as if it were the only religion. I think that in American today, any disticntion between the statement "religious people are ruining America" and "Christians are ruining America" is a construction. That is, since most religious Americans happen to be Christian, one can not make any real distinction between the two statements that has a strong base in reality.
I don&#39;t really know what to say to this. I would be very hesistant to say that Christianity qua Christianity is ruining America, mostly because I don&#39;t think it&#39;s true. Rather, I am inclined to believe that inolerance qua religious fundementalism, as well as intolerance qua extreme leftist ideology (read Michael Moore et al), is a counterproductive force in society.
With that said, I should say that when I went to the polls a short while ago, one may have described me as one of the people who decided which way to vote on the basis of morality. That is, I find it morally indefensible to restrict the civil liberties of a specific section of the population defined by arbitrary and capricious standards. It is specially irreprehensible if said restrictions serve to further ostracize and persecute a particular demographic that was previously repressed, especially when said ostricization holds the potential to increase fear of and hatred for said individuals, and therefore has the potential to increase the incidence of violence against said individuals. In short, part of my definition of morality demands the protection of the civil liberties of all individuals, note in particular that marriage is meant to be understood to be a civil liberty. Notice also that homosexuals are infact human beings.
Well, it looks like I&#39;m saying more than I had intented, so I may as well continue my exposition a little further. Here&#39;s closing thought/statement: I would say that traditional Christian values are quite congruent with my personal ideology, however, in the current state of things in American, what is generally percieved as "traditional Christian values", I see more as a hijacking/bastardization of Christian values. IMO, the devisive actions made and rhetoric used under the guise of "traditional Christian values" are in no way Christ-like.
Note that one may also argue that the other pole is also making similar devisive actions and using similarly devisive rhetoric, however, since they are not claiming to represent traditional Christian values, their actions seem considerably less hyopcritical.

On an unrelated note, I think that comparing something like the crusades to, say the Soviet regime under Stalin is misguieded. In particular, the claim is generally that the crusades were in the name of god.Hhowever the symmetric claim, in the case of the Soviet regime would be that Stalin&#39;s actions were in the name of atheism, the statement simply does not make sense.
