Thread: Five minutes of meditation:{your own way}

So I'll probably get flamed for it, but whatever...

What good is praying going to do? No amount of prayer could have prevented this from happening, what good is praying going to do now? It's not going to make the flood waters go back down, it's not going to turn back time, it's not going to feed the hungry, house the homeless, it's not going to do anything good.

If that's what it takes to help you feel better about what happened and makes you feel like you're somehow making a difference in someone's life somewhere out there then feel free.

Personally, I'm not going to waste my time.

I also feel extremely bad for what happened/is happening to the people of New Orleans and surrounding areas, but I also don't believe praying will do any good...

I can't believe such a disaster happened so close to home.....

I will think of them for a while tonight if you think that will help anything....

So I decided that this situation is way shitty for everyone involved and went onto Red Cross and donated $50 last night....

I figure that can help a bit in replacement for my prayers....

You know what I find interesting? I mean, if you're bringing prayer and such into it already... what about divine intervention? Do you suppose there's meaning behind this whole thing?

Interesting observation.... I don't think that they diserved to be killed as they were, despite the fact that a lot of shady/immoral business happened there. Las Vegas is full of sin too, as it about EVERY US city in some way. New Orleans was just known for it, I don't see why God would feel the need to strike them down....

No, nobody deserved any of this, I agree. But I have thought about the whole thing being viewed as a "sign" or "smiting!" or whatever. Of course, these are things I come up with when I'm blazed and talking about conspiracies, so it's more just something to consider, I spose. Lord knows the general public isn't going to follow up with LESS Jay Z 'Bad Intentions' type entertainment. oh no. We're too far gone for even a hurricane to strike some sense into people.

That's a fucking good point actually Sprank. Like, surely if the hurricane was an act of God, by praying you're asking for that act to not be fully carried out.

But then it could be argued that God knew you were going to pray, so he'd already set a lesser limit on the death than he might otherwise have done.

Fucking God.

One could also say that God allowed this to happen so that the people would turn to him, basically a big attention-getter. "You're all dying. Hello? Anyone wanna ask me for some help? I'm waiting..." One could argue that a benevolent god wouldn't let the people die, but others could refute that saying that god was more worried about people's souls than their earthly bodies. Anyway, that's picky details. Just thought i'd offer my bit.
