I'v got so many things in my mind telling me that when you're dead you're dead, but i'v heard of some wierd stuff that i prefer to explain by somehow being connected to dead people. i guess it's the emotional side of things, like, i believe that emotions are somehow manifestations of electromagnetic forces, which i think have the power to affect outside the brain, in the same way the state of the brain can effect the state of the body, and i guess in some way that very intense emotions can somehow affect a certain area for longer than the emotion itself is present.

But then you can never be sure that your awareness isn't just FAR more sensitive than you know, and can pick up on the tinyest details that give away emotions, even somehow when those emotions are no longer present (in the form of an emotional person)

like, this is an example that's easily explained in other ways, but it's unsubtle enough to be explainable, but the difference in atmosphear between a ruined castle, a brand new house and a well travelled caravan. there is a tangible difference in atmosphear between them, and i know it can be explained by the fact you have prior knowledge and preconceptionsd about the buildings, an they are very physical differences, but it's whatever is being picked up that i'm talking about.

and maybe in some sense, even if that is a completely material effect, it could still be called ghostly, as it's the not now affecting the now in a very real way.

hmm, that's probably the most coherenently i'v ever put my opinion on the subject.

No.

I used to be unsure, but recently, I've been watching a lot of Derren Brown, and he's taught me that people can be totally convinced that they saw something happen, but that it can very easily be their mind 'playing tricks' on them.

Every single account of seeing ghosts can be understood in this way. The mind is revoltingly powerful, and I personally think is infinitely more intriguing than some semi-scary day dream.

I put ghosts in the same category of 'naive romantic fantasies' as hearing the voice of God. 9 times out of 10, the people who say this stuff are missing things elsewhere in their lives anyway.

I don't believe in any super natural things. I've had strange experiences, but there is always an explanation for everything in my cases.

Yes.
My friend and his gf once lived in a really old building in downtown Annapolis. They had several "experiences" with things happening there, such as going out to dinner, and coming home to find all the lights on and the cupboards open, stuff like that. People that I knew also had "experiences" there when they stayed over.
I spent Christmas there a few years ago, while this was ongoing. I was sleeping on the sofa, in the living room. My friends' brother was sleeping on the floor beside me. I got up to go piss in the middle of the night, and felt sort of uneasy, but didn't really think about it and went back to sleep. Just as I was about to fall asleep, the temperature of the room suddenly dropped by 20 degrees at least. I immediately snapped fully awake, and every hair on my body stood straight up. As I was just about to sit up and wake Chris, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I couldn't move, couldn't talk, couldn't reach down to smack Chris, nada. It stayed there for at least 30 seconds(which was like an eternity) and suddenly went away. The room instantly warmed back up to normal temperature.
When we got up that morning, I told everyone what had happened. My friends' Mom was sleeping in the back bedroom, where a lot of the things seemed to happen to people, and she said she noticed the temperature change, too.
So, yes, I believe...*shudders*

stuff is just stuff. your emotional health is much more important. holding raging anger in is more harmful than your faggot-assed tv that probably deserves to get its ass beat anyway.

I've had too much weird shit happen to me to not believe in ghosts. They used to appear right in front of me all the time. I got so used to it that whenever it happened I'd just walk right past and ignore them--lol--I felt bad but how could I help? You really feel sorry for them, you know? Cus supposedly they're just STUCK.

Esternogligen, why the sudden interest??

i do. im not sure about the whole "foggy figure in the corner" type of ghost but yes i do.

i saw my cousin when i was younger. he killed himself and i saw him a year or two later when i was around 13. you can say every thing has a explanation, you can say what ever you would like. on all 5 or so occasions i was sleeping in my moms room because she had a kickass water bed. when i saw him, he distinctly pointed out 3 things in my mothers room which were gifts from him to her. you can say i made the experiances up, i know what i saw and i saw it on several occasions. not once was i ever afraid of what i saw. its a weird experiance, its such a overwelming feeling of peace and calm when you see things like that.

all i know is that i saw him point out 3 things, on three completely seperate occasions, and every one had extreamlly close ties to him. call it coincidence, if youd like.

I'm going to stick with a rational explanation, rather than just guessing (out of hope) that something no-one really experiences has happened to me.

Sorry, but what you've just said is ludicrous. Do you think that people actually do hear the voice of God? If so, why aren't you a Christian? If not, why is the voice of God any different to seeing ghosts? Different because you think ghosts are cool, and Christians aren't, possibly...

Yes, it's because I think ghosts are really, really cool.

Or maybe it's because I've never known anyone who has actually spoken to God, but I've known people who have had poltergiests, and family members of mine have seen ghosts, and seen mirrors jump off walls. Family members who I don't consider to be liars.

I don't doubt alot of people to imagine things they see though, christ, I've had vampires and aliens talking to be before, and I don't believe for a second that was real.

For the record, I don't believe ghosts are dead people either. So your theory of 'hope' (presumably of an afterlife, or seeing a dead relative) is wrong

I don't see how it is ridiculous what I said. It's the same as clairvoyants. I know people can be tricked into believing someone is talking to dead loved ones, as proved again by derren brown, but it doesn't prove that there are no legitamate clairvoyants in the world.

Family members who I don't consider to be liars.[/b]
Hey, wow, I never said anyone was a liar, I clearly said that these people can totally, 100% believe that these things have happened. As far as their mind is concerned, they happened. But that doesn't mean they actually did.

So your theory of 'hope' (presumably of an afterlife, or seeing a dead relative) is wrong[/b]
My theory of hope had nothing to do with the afterlife, it had to do with sad people who 'hope' that they'll witness something no-one else does. They 'hope' to be special, they 'hope' to stand out in some way, they 'hope' that they'll get attention for being so special. Don't presume, ask.

It's the same as clairvoyants. I know people can be tricked into believing someone is talking to dead loved ones, as proved again by derren brown, but it doesn't prove that there are no legitamate clairvoyants in the world.[/b]
Well, it's more proof that clairvoyants can give that they're talking to the dead, isn't it? Let's think, science explains ghosts in a way so simple and consistent that a man can make legitimate, solid entertainment out of it, while clairvoyants don't explain anything logically, instead they sit there and take your money, and prey on your desires to contact those long dead.

Sorry, but until there's even the slightest piece of proof for the existence of ghosts, I see no reason why I should believe it.

And actually, I don't think seeing ghosts and clairvoyance are the same, at all. Seeing ghosts is a brain malfunction, clairvoyance is a profiteering exploitation of grief.

How about when two people hallucinate the same thing, then pick up the broken pieces?

So, are you presuming that everyone who believes in ghosts wants to see one? Personally I'm not concerned with seeing ghosts atall. As for poltergeists, I hope never to have the pleasure.

Fair point, only flaw with that is that they actually don't all take your money.
