I was curious so I actually read about the religion.
From what I can gather its a combination of the following:
Bhuddism
mixed with
HG Wells undertones
told by
Tony Robbins
Hope this helps those who were curious.
I didnt read too closely, but the tenets of the religion sound laudable and the basis of the religion is to do good... its too bad no one can take it seriously because of the media shitstorm around it.
2:05 AM [Lothar] kinda like beef stew but they use guinness

Sweet as the Punch.Syco- "The Empress is the latter leg of this triad, representing the physical body and the material world. From her comes all the pleasure of the senses and the abundance of life in all its forms. She is also the mother archetype, and through her we get a first glimpse of the power of love in the Tarot." I think this is all representative of awesomly large tits, no?
All talk of aliens aside, it strikes me that scientology on a basic level isn't all that different to Neuro-Linguistic Programming, fused with general run-of-the-mill self-help spiel.
It just allows you to visualise your problems more easily with its fancy pictures, diagrams and inflatable, chewable, and waterproof user guides, which is probably why it's so, seemingly, addictive.
In fact, now that I think about this... total belief that only your belief system is right... a big book of fairytales which shape your beliefs... the belief that you have the responsibility to convert non-believers...
Where've I heard all this before?

And possibly the fact that it's the most obviously made up thing of all time and the fact that it's a blatant money-making scheme which takes advantage of people in weak emotional states (stupid celebrities, drug abusers etc...) and operates very agressive policies towards ex-members and detractors. And then there's the reported quotes from the 'religion's founder L.Ron Hubbard expressing his desire or at least whimsical intention to start a religion for profit. Hmm...
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler
Yeah but I think that quote is debatable in it's authenticity and has also been attributed to George Orwell and Robert Heinlein at different times.

Even if he didn't say it, it's pretty obvious that was his sentiment. The alternatives, of course, are malice and total insanity. Or all three.
I mean come on, it's like a parody of religion, it would be funnier than Flying Spaghetti Monster if people didn't take it seriously. He's having us all on.

I picked up a copy of Dianetics and y'know, it's interesting. It's got a cool picture of a volcano on the front.
