To be fair, for most of its existence Christianity was no more against premartial sex than it&#39;s Jewish predecessor. Even strict early Protestant groups like the Puritans allowed for premarital sex due to the need for men to marry fertile women given the necessity of children for frontier agricultural societies. Virginity was once merely a prerequisite of upper class marriages, and only to ensure the male line, but around the 1800&#39;s it ended up merging into a "Christian," belief due to end of the agricultural society along with reaction against growing women&#39;s rights. In a post agricultural property based, but predivorce society, premarital sex doesn&#39;t seem like a great idea for "the male line." The exact cause of the shift is hard to pin down to just one or two things, but historically Christianity has not really focused on premartial sex as a sin. IDK what the big fucking deal is. My personal opinion is that most western Christian churchs have become voices of social conservatism and that they are digging their heels in where it is easiest; because as hard as it is to repress teen sex, it&#39;s a lot easier than motivating nonviolence and giving to the poor.

It was as irrelevant as ever. The topic&#39;s about whether Disney is using purity rings to market sex to children, not about a loose history of religious attitudes to sex.

I, for one, fully support this idea.

If I see a fit girl just chilling somewhere, and I go to talk to her, and she&#39;s wearing one of those it&#39;s an immediate no go. Sounds like it&#39;d make life easier.

It&#39;s relevant because people try to paint abstinence as a religious issue when it&#39;s really a product of social changes. Calling 1 in 3 people on the planet "retarded" for something that doesn&#39;t even directly have to do with the them is, well, retarded.

And abstinence wouldn&#39;t be a religious issue if religions didn&#39;t make it one. If it wasn&#39;t a religious issue than you wouldn&#39;t have the Pope still talking about how condoms don&#39;t help in the fight against AIDS and you wouldn&#39;t have religious movements like the &#39;silver ring thing&#39;. Regardless of how it was 500 years ago.

Alot of parents are up in arms about this Miley chick. I dont really keep up on my Miley Cyrus news but I do have a 12 year old sister who was OBSESSED with Miley. I mean posters plastered all over the walls. She had Miley toothpaste, Miley blankets, Tshirts, pencils, perfume, etc... And now she isnt allowed to have it.

My step mom dosent condone listening to Mileys music or watching the TV show because she &#39;sets a bad example and is not a good role model for young girls&#39;. Apparently alot of parents of young kids feel this way. I was at my dads work the other day and alot of his coworkers are parents of young kids and two of them were actually discussing how they didnt let their kids go to the concerts of hers cause shes doing nothing but dating a 20 year old dudes and posting half nude pics on the internet, and they dont want their daughters admiring that, or something to that affect.

I bet disney is getting alot of greif from the &#39;Miley-hatas&#39;. They are trying to shove this pure and innocent apperance onto the Jonas brothers so that they dont loose their audience to another coorperation like Nickelodian or whatever else they have these days.
