When you're travelling around an African country you can really see how all of these different denominations of Christianity are trying to recruit people. There'll be a Catholic outreach centre over here and a Quaker school over there followed by some Methodist bullshit chilling out in the corner. They all know there are shitloads of dejected or vulnerable people around and so they all go there to get new recruits. Now it may not seem all that bad until you meet people who can't grow anything or have no money and they just say, "it's fine, God is going to sort this all out for me". And that is unfortunately not really a minority view.

Wow, the Catholic Church haven't changed their official view on condoms and the AIDs epidemic; what a surprise. Does anyone really expect the dwindling conservative behemoth that is the Catholic Church to actually liberalise itself, as an institution, in anything approaching a reasonable speed? When bums-on-seats Catholics are dwindling around the world the Church isn't going to risk losing the hardliners, particularly when you consider those entering the seminaries (particularly in the UK) every year are a very few fastidious conservatives. It's disgusting and it's a shame but it's hardly surprising.
