When you use a name like Pat Robertson's to make a comparison, you can't expect that people will ignore everything about the man because that's how you've decided you're going to frame your comparison.

It's like comparing someone to Stalin solely because of their moustache. Or comparing someone to Myra Hindley solely because they're female. And you know it.

Which is why I went on to explain said comparisson. A couple of times. *yawn*

Now please don't rummage through everything I've said looking for a bad word choice or poor phrasing which you can then quote back at me because that's just pointless.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

I don't need to, you're backtracking plenty enough on your own.

Have I? Shit, maybe I like the dude now and don't even know it. Like I said before, all you seem to care about is winning an argument which doesn't exist.

There is no argument here because you've got nothing to back up anything you've said.

    Done.

Fucking hell. I don't need to back up anything because I just said that I don't like somebody! It's not an objective statement! I'm not trying to prove that Richard Dawkins is inherently an unlikeable person, just that I don't like him. You didn't like that and went off on one!

If you can't back up your opinions, you might want to think twice before sharing them with the rest of us.

But you've ignored me whenever I've said why I dislike him. Every time I've mentioned the fact that I find him smarmy and uber-smug you've ignored it in favour of shouting about me 'comparing him to Lars Ulrich'.

Now if you expect me to go and trawl the internet for videos or quotes so I can say 'there! that's why I don't like him' then you're going to be disappointed.

I don't even understand why it should matter to you that I don't like him. I'm not slagging off his work or anything important. I just reckon he's a douche.

That's great man, but once again, no quotes, no proof, no nothing. All you've got is a vacuous opinion, based on nothing, which you insist on repeating ad nauseum, for no reason at all.

I find it miraculous that you can vacantly compare someone to Pat Robertson solely on the basis that you think they're 'smug'. You don't see that as even slightly inappropriate? No, of course you don't. Because of... well, no reason whatsoever.

See the topic on Glenn Beck.

You're not even pretending to have attempted to understand anything I've said in the last couple of pages have you? This is pointless. Let someone else come in and have something to say, you're not being reasonable so I can't be arsed.

Feel free to say I'm 'running away' or 'scarpering because I have no real evidence that you will accept as being valid. Your trophy is at the engravers now.

If I may so interject, I don't think we should be talking about whether we personally like or dislike some prominent figure. Isn't the content of what they're saying the most important here??? I mean...that's like me writing off Nietzsche's work because he didn't think too kindly of women, and since I'm a woman I would be taking personal offense to that, if I cared.

Yes, it's much, MUCH more important. And yes, it would be ridiculous to write off somebody's work because you didn't like what you've seen of them personally.

As for 'why to ditch religion', well, as much as I dislike religion, I'm not totally sure I'd like it to be eradicated. I think a lot of wisdom has been gained through the practice of religion in the past and maaaaybe we'd lose that if we just got rid fo religion completely. The problem with religion is that it ends up coalescing around centres of power and that's where it all goes completely wrong.

I totally disagree, and I'm going to compare you to Chairman Mao, for no reason other than that you used 3 question marks in a row.

Looks like we're all wrong anyway, check out this incredible rebuttal of The God Delusion. Jaw-dropping.

Yeah, that’s what pisses me off about Michael Jackson haters.
People are able to blindly deny that he had any talent based on their personal opinions.
He controlled those charts at will.

That’s why I agree with separation of church and state and voted against the legal ban on same sex marriage (even though my Mormon state passed it anyway)
Your beliefs are just that; your beliefs, and they can’t be forced upon you.
Another reason that these street corner criers, Pentecostal ‘fire and brimstone’ preachers and the like are also huge problems with religion because you also cant scare someone into it either.
    Fucking idiots.
