It never ceases to amaze me how people can walk down the block every day and not look around them in amazement.

We rush through our lives, never stopping for a second to think about how incredible it is that you actually have the ability to smell roses, let alone that roses actually exist! We run from job to job, from class to class, as though it's a completely ordinary, random, terrible day. Why is it so rare that someone will open their eyes?

Look at the screen in front of you. Plastic, metal, and electricity, all working together to magically transport you across the globe. Look at the tiny squiggles and lines and dots, that somehow are understood as actually meaning something. Somebody invented those letters. Somebody, somewhere, sat down and decided that the letter S should sound like 'essssss', and that it should look like thiSSSSS.

Somebody, somewhere, for whatever reason, invented equations. Somebody, somewhere, figured out how to get the circumference of a circle. Somebody, somewhere, was the very first person to log on to the internet.

    Fascinating, yet nobody cares.

    Look around you.

Somebody built that wall. Somebody put up that wall paper, or splattered on that paint. Somebody, somewhere, laid down that floor. Somebody planted that tree. Somebody bought that car. Somebody with a life, a family, his own personal religion, and a whole host of memories.

It's simply amazing to me how a human came up with something so complex as language, how over time, people learned to communicate using a series of sounds and grunts that we use every single day without giving it a second thought.

And yet we kill ourselves over who gets the oil, never wondering where the oil actually came from. We boggle our brains with the mysteries of the universe instead of looking at our own hands and seeing the infinite possibility they contain.

It has been proved scientifically that the brain has more possibilities of connections than there are stars in the universe. What do we do with that infinite possibility? We guzzle down booze, we smoke weed, we start wars. Instead of seeing the beauty of the human being, and the beauty of friendship, we only see the money. The mere slips of paper that make us go crazy.

What makes you look at this smiley:
    :lo:
and make you think that it represents laughter, and look at this one:

and think it represents sadness? They are, after all, pixels on a screen. Yet your brain interprets them. Amazing.

Lightly press on the sides of your eyes, through your eyelids. Watch your vision split into two. Do you see how much we depend on our senses every day, but never really notice them until we go blind? Until we get a stuffy nose? Do you ever stop to wonder exactly what makes up a sensation of pain? Do you ever wonder why exactly you cannot describe it?

Maybe. And then you go on with your lives.

Perhaps if we looked at the billions of tiny miracles around us, we would better be able to appreciate the bigger miracles around us.

You may now return to your life. Go ahead. X out of this screen, and go back to whatever it is you were doing before you read this. But never forget how amazing it is that they chose an X for that little button at the top of the screen, and not a G.

I think in the back of our minds we all wonder about just about everything. It is hard not to, but sometimes those thoughts can scare us, and that is why we don't ever slow down, because if we are caught off gaurd, what could happen? if we don't hurry to cross the street, the cars will come, if we take too much time analysing a computer, where would the fun in it be? if we stopped to look at the trees, would we really see beauty, or would we see despair, from our daily routines? To wonder, is to think, and to think, is to try to gain the why's, and to some the why's are the scariest things in life.

I agree about everyone taking life for granted and worrying about stupid little shit all the time. Its even worse where I am b/c its the last quarter of college and everyone is stressed the fuck out about everything. I was too, I worried about and got upset over all the little things that were going wrong in my life.

A few months ago, I got word that my best friend from high school had died in Iraq. This was a bit sobering. He was one of those people that was always looking forward, never freaking out about little things, and he had such great plans and ambitions. And then he died.

This made me rethink the way I was doin shit. Here i was, freaking out about shit that wont even matter in a few days, and my friend is dead and he wont be able to do any of the things hes wanted to do since we were little. It kind of makes you rethink whats important in your life

Heh, wow. It's fun reading these things..

That's a good point, Quacker. I should've added it to my article- to do things now before you're unable to. People always assume that they'll have another day, they'll have a lifetime of tomorrows, but sometimes it just doesn't work out and that happens more often than you think.

Live in the moment.. if you feel an urge, dont freakin wait to do something you really want to, or you may never have the chance. Although some things are better left for a diffrent time. If the timing is right, jump on whatever you want to do with your life.

i hate it when people spout out vague cliches like "live in the moment" as if its the word of god and everythign about it makes so much sense. i also hate it when people bump topics from a year ago.

I believe the general sentiments from shit like 'Live for today' and that are this:

You may or may not get another life, but you don't know, so you should assume this is all you get. Tell your loved ones they're exactly that, because any day they could get hit by a bus or whatever and you'll regret it like hell. You shouldn't waste your time in life worrying about assholes, or idiots, or crying or arguing, you should spend all of it being happy, make the most of every day because you never know when you're gonna run out of days, and looking at the average lifespan and how things change on this planet, we have a short, short life.

    Teh end.
