    now, who owns the internet?
if i had a linux server, why couldn't i make a website that has the same address as this? who/what is stopping me from having any address i like? nobody owns the internet, so in theory i could sell websites that i dont actually own? like if i claimed that a field is mine, then sold parts of it off?
    very confused, so many questions!
    please help!
Drive it like ya stole it

Actually, people do own the internet. It's not some magical hard drive that exists in the netherspace which we plugged into, it's servers run by companies who spend a shitload of money so when thousands of people are hitting the web pages, they still load quickly. Those guys will sell you space on their shit for a website.

    Talking

the bloke that invented the internet in the early 70's to tranfer "secret files" to the military head-quarters in thew U.S.A., i no this sounds stupid because anyone can get on it now-days but back then no one even knew what it was and how to access it, he came up with the idea so he should own it!

I think that quote refers to defeating the internet, not winning ownership.

    Geez, get your context straight...
