Yeah, it's a good example of how Americans just roll over and die when people take away what they think they have a right to.

Wow, I really wish I could have a drink...

there should be price controls on gasoline and a limit on how much gasoline and individual may consume
No there shouldn't. If I want to drive 18,000 miles a year for no apparent reason, its my right as an American.

When it came down to ensuring those "rights," you don't seem like the type of person to take much action when push came to shove, making your opinion irrelevant.

What the hell are you talking about?

What would you really do if there was a limit of 10 gallons of gas a week?

I use at least 13 a week. I'd find ways. Trust me.

Is it common to have variable interest rate mortgages in Britain? That shit is playing with fire.
You get fixed rate, for a a certain amount of time. For example, my ex was on a fixed rate of 5% for two years. My friend is on a fixed rate of 4.9% for 10 years. And when that fixed rate ends it'll go up to whatever, unless you shop around and change who you're mortgage is with. My ex's, in november when her two years fixed interest ends is going up from £500 a month to £600 a month.

That's pretty much an ARM, right? I considered one of those. If nothing else, for motivation to not stay in my house too long. But I went with a 30 year fixed and I'm pretty glad.

My dad babysat Isabelle today and he told me that she fell asleep while they were driving to my grandma's house. He wanted her to get a nap, so he drove her around for an hour. While he's telling me this, I kept thinking, "I wonder how much that cost him in gas..."
10:21 PM [TheMadCatter] I got free shipping, 20 dollars off, and a free tote bag

$4.60 last night. This topic has officially became my journal for documenting my rising expenses from gas.

Somehow I don't think anyone has the "right" to consume as much petrol as they want. Saying it's your right doesn't make it so.

Having said that, petrol rationing is a shit idea unless the survival of the country depends on it (WW2, etc).

So what would make it your right?
Being able to afford to pay for it?
Owning the land it's pumped from?
Pumping it out of the ground yourself?

Or does no one have that right since it's a finite resource?

You don't have the right because you don't own it, and it's not in your constitution.

Yeah, you may have the right to purchase petrol freely should there be any made available to you but that fuel has been dug out of the ground and processed by a private entity and you have absolutely no right to demand they give you the petrol.

It's completely fucking stupid that economies are so reliant on fuel prices yet we've allowed the oil industry to become 'boom and bust' like the housing market which is just fucking so idiotic.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

$8.14 a gallon in the UK, roughly.... If my maths is correct, which it may well not be.
