It's $12 a gallon in the UK. You're still getting cheap petrol, just not as cheap as it used to be so stop yer complainin'
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

You know what, responses like this are retarded. Americans are driving a 3rd of the vehicles in the world. Our country doesn't have a mass transit system as successful as europe's/china's/whatever, and we don't really have buses in a lot of cities still. It's simply unfeasible to tell the average american to take the bus to work. It takes 120$ to fill up my dad's truck and he has to fill it up regularly going to and from work so he spends upwards of 600$ on gas in a month. He has to drive a truck to pick up large parts, and he's not compensated for any of it.

i was talking to animal control yesterday about the failing economy and how people are starting to give up their pets so they can afford to eat/ drive their trucks.[/b]
Thats happening in the UK. It was on the news, as animals are being abandoned as the cost of "living" goes up. Cost of milk went up by 10p in a day, things like croissants have doubled in price over the past 2 weeks.

Anyway, from what i hear UK's economy isnt going so hot at the moment. That, or Tesco has just put its world domination plans in action.

Maybe if you invested in a public transport system then you'd have one. Unless that idea is simply too socialist for some of you people to stomach.

Problem: no decent public transport
Solution: invest in public transport

It sure must be easy to build a public transit system in a country that is "slightly smaller than Oregon"

Speaking of Oregon, Portland has a kick ass public transportation system. One of the best in the world from what I understand. Gas prices are still hitting them hard too.

canberra has. you know, some people (COUGH GOSU) might rag on the public service, but when all is said and done, i'm earning enough to not care that petrol prices are rising.

anyway, this is all unfortunate and stuff, but it's why kids should get a good education and work hard. if you have a good job and lots of money, you can handle it when this kind of stuff happens. in australia, housing prices are insane and so many people of my generation are having a good wah because they will never be able to buy a house. i don't get it. work harder, get a better job, take on another job, stop partying, stop buying clothes, move back in with your parents or to the outer subrubs. it's not tricky.

The gas companies are getting rich off of us. Its not exactly "supply and demand: oil is expensive, gas is expensive" as everyone thinks. Yes, affairs in the middle east worsen the deal, but for the mos tpart, the world is being ripped off big time by greedy companies.

My dad recently read a news article and said it's 7$ a gallon proportionally in England.

A lot of people probably haven't even been getting raises to offset the usual inflation, much less the rising cost of living. It's a good thing to bring up during that conversation with the boss.

"Greedy companies", I just love that notion, companies usually want money, they aren't going to cut out their profits unless they absolutely have to, calling them greedy is stupid.

Yes my hubby gets increases quite often but and it's a big BUT he's working in the car-gearbox industry which means it's really unstable and always lay people off or like just this week have to keep having factory shut downs due to no production or all work going overseas.
