    The youth of today...

Ok, so it's not so much the youths that piss me off, more the society thats created them. I was at work last night, and was sat outside at about 11 o'clock and there were four lads there, no older than 15, skinning up. They were typically loud and cocky, but they weren't hurting anyone. They were talking to (at) me and the guy I work with boasting about a house they broke into that made the local paper, and boasting about how they're going to start dealing weed next week if we want they're phone number.
I just found it so sad. I can see exactly where these kids are headed, but what can you do?
They all seemed like nice enough kids, aside from the burglary, but I know at that age you don't really have any idea about exactly what it is you're doing to people when you do that, let alone understanding about the consequences of your actions on your own future.

Anyway I just ended up being left feeling incredibly sorry for them, and all the other kids in this country that are just like them. To be honest, I'm not suprised so many kids end up like that, because if they've got shit parents that seems to be it...end of the road. Noone else is going to help you, a) because you're a little shit and b) noone really has the power to.

    It sucks.

Not to belittle your concerns, but you sound just a little old when you say something like "Kids today.."

I think some kids have always been "trouble makers" and not much has really changed.

don't let a few bad apples change your look on the entire youth as a whole, but one thing i can say the newer generation living through cell phones and the internet from day one will never get to experience the hay days of being free of being connected to a technologically form.

I don't think think people give teenagers enough credit. When you are 15 you aren't oblivious to most shit. If you were taught what right is from wrong you know how to function in society. Although i have noticed that personal responsibility is not most kids strong points. (or people really). I feel like a lot of kids don't hear "Are you fucking stupid?" or the nicer "Don't be stupid" enough.

Sounds like you just described the crowd of 25 year old dipshits we saw downtown last week.

The point was more not that kids are dipshits, but the fact that I live in a society where there really is nothing better for them to do, and no real opportunity for kids with parents who don't really give a toss. But whatever, I have new things pissing me off now.

QFT. I see so many dumbasses that can't go 30 seconds without flapping their cocksuckers into their cell phones at any moment of the day, including driving. I'm often having to take evasive action to avoid an accident. God help me when I'm on my motorcycle.

It was fun when we'd use the college network to chat and organize parties and other social activities, but now it has become the social activity.

I know it sounds obvious. But alot of youth lack a sense of direction and purpose. Particularly in the city. They go to school where they get indoctrinated by the state for 16 years... They then have the option to leave that bullshit system or go onto 6th form...I dont know about any other Brits, but when i was at school all they hammered into my brain was that your GCSE's were the B all and end all of life.
They make it seem to the youth that if they dont go onto further indoctrination, oh sorry i mean education, then theyre doomed to be a failure in life....
What they dont tell the youth is that your worth in life isnt defined by your employment status or financial status...
Im guessing the kids your complaining about probably fall into that 'left school at 16' category. Fact is, if you grew up in a home where your parents havent taught you the basic code of conduct for life i.e. 'do unto others as you would have done unto you', and your surrounded by the temptations of a faster car, more flashy jewelry and so forth...(which the oposite sex has also been indoctrinated to desire) whilst at the same time there are no decent paid, stimulating jobs around then yeh, chances are your going to adopt a criminal lifestyle.
In laymans terms. If you place your entire faith in only the five senses then youre doomed only to see the shadows on the wall. The youth have been groomed to see the world this way.
Fuck the pigs in my city, they can burn in hell. I'll kill a hundred fuckin hootahs before they take me to jail!

I know what you mean. I am a teacher, of 3rd graders no less, and the things I see them do just blow me away. I work in a title one school which means lower economic status but I don't see that as an excuse. Some of the kids are very respectful and some....well if I had acted that way in school I would have had an ass beating every day for a week until I realized what I did was wrong.
One parent went so far as to tell me "I have 7 kids. I don't have time to spoil one of them." Spoil? I called her to tell her that her son was rude and disruptive and could she talk to him. It really isn't about the kids it is about the parents. They are learning from them and mimicking what they see at home. What a lot of people apparently don't realize is kids are watching and are not going to do what you say, they are going to do what you do.

Lol... That's unreal! but yeah, you hit the nail on the head there.

A friend of mine used to be a teaching assistant, and she lent one of the kids a book...She brought it back the next day, because Daddy said she wasn't allowed to waste her time reading....
And when discussing what the class had had for breakfast, quite a few had just chocolate or a bag of crisps.
And then she told me about the classic 'I used to have a dog....but Daddy got angry and kicked it across the room'

Some peoples parenting skills leave ALOT to be desired.

I know what you mean. I've seen kids around the age of 12 cussing up a storm, eff this, eff that. I'm 22 and I sensor myself whenever i curse. I also hate parents who are too scared to disipline their children in public. I believe that sometimes a kid just won't learn to not do something until there is pain involved. i also believe that there's a difference between dicipline and abuse... and unfortunately some parents don't know where one stops and the other begins

You can see the effects of bad/lazy parenting in children before they can even talk. You can also see the effects of children who are over-parented at that age, too. It's got to be tough sometimes, but there has got to be a happy medium of caring enough and not caring too much.

As far as kid being little shits - it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with parenting skills. Sometimes bad parents are clearly the reason. Other times kids come from great homes with loving, supportive parents - but end up socializing with the wrong groups.

I remember being 11/12 and swearing up a storm - it had nothing to do with my parents. In fact I KNEW if I ever even dared utter a swear word in front of them, I'd better be prepared for the consequences. And that's probably why I did it, and a lot of kids do the things they do - it's naughty and taboo. It's cool to do that.

As for stealing, and the more illegal type activities, it's hard to say how much parenting plays a role in it. For some kids it probably plays a huge part in it. But kids these days have influences all over the place, so it's hard to point the finger soley at the parents.

And part of thinking kids are terrible these days, is getting older. I see kids doing things I did at the same age, and it baffles and astounds me and I can't believe my eyes. But, I did it. We had a kid chuck a crab apple at us while we were driving past a wooded area at night a while back. It pissed the BF off to no end, he was mad. But, he did it growing up.

You start to hit that age where you're all of a sudden that 'old person' that kids like to piss around with, or act tough in front of, and it sucks!

Aww.... That just made me laugh and almost cry at the same time, Sprank!! My dad loves that movie and that is his favorite, favorite, favorite part!! Especially because his favorite college team (BYU Cougars) is a huge rival of the University of Utah "Utes." So, he would watch this part and make fun of the Utes. "What's a 'Ute?'" Haha.
