i'm on day 4 w/o a cig (HI5!)
gotta say i'm pretty proud of myself- especially after being in the CAR w people that smoke. TORTUROUS. but i've maintained like a gangster.
so i've also been running w my dog. the other day i upped my distance by adding maybe a 1/2mi. and then i wound up walking roughly 5mi in flip flops the following day.
my shins are on FIRE. i've stretched a LOT. looked online and it says i should kinda wait it out and heal. my cousin said when he was in football, they'd just suffer thru it.
i don't want to do damage to my legs tho. but i'm so goddamned antsy. so i'm stretching and stretching but it sucks so bad cuz all i wanna do is MOVE. i don't remember when i've ever had this much energy.

ice for shin splints is good. i used to live with ice packs strapped to my shins
And keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get worse. I ended up with Chronic Compartment Syndrome and had to have surgery for it

when you become immune to ice packs, another idea is to alternate between ice packs and heat packs. 20 minutes with each. I don't know what it does, but its something i used to do and it felt like it helped

Actually, if you're lazy like I am, you can just use ice, instead of alternating ice and heat. If you hold ice to your body long enough it perceives it as a threat and starts sending extra blood in attempt to warm up the area.
The heat feels better, but ice does the job of both.

Uuuuurgh quitting smoking is ridiculous. Hate it hate it hate it all my best friends smooooke and encourage me too aaaargh anyway. Congrats babe. Reward yourself with something small each day you succeed and make the reward grow.
Shin Splints - Eat pineapple. It's a natural anti-inflammatory and doctors prescribe it for shin splints before they prescribe drugs

I used to get shin splints all the time when I ran. I don't get them any more but I also don't run nearly as much anymore. Anyway, anti-inflamatory foods are good, nutritiondata.com has that kind of info so you can check the food you eat to help you stay away from inflamatory foods. And good job on the smoking
