government offices are full of ****s. this is why i need to get a job working for the state, so that i too can be a grade A douchebag and reap the benefits of everyone's tax dollars.
i recently filed a claim w unemployment on 11/2, the same day i got laid off from my recent office gig.
i STILL have not received any benefits. they sent me a debit card in the mail a week ago, and i've checked the balance every day since. last night, it told me the balance was NEGATIVE $0.50
so i called the office today to see wtf is going on. the woman there couldn't tell me ANYTHING about it. not even if i were going to be penalized for overdrafting. she just goes "hmm yes that appears to be correct"
great.
so then i ask her about filing an appeal in regards to my benefit amount. they're using my pay from the humane society (minimum wage, $7.75/hr, PART TIME) instead of my recent employment ($15/hr, FULL TIME)...
and she talks in circles about how "oh we did file a claim with spherion, THEY are paying your unemployment benefits... and i was like "well, if THEY are paying, WHY are they paying me according to the PART TIME MINIMUM WAGE job i had 6mos ago?!"
"because that's what quarter we're in"
"well that doesn't make much sense does it!? i am interested in appealling this decision because my current financial responsibilities coincide with living in the CHICAGO SUBURBS, working FULL TIME- not living in RURAL CARBONDALE working PART TIME for MINIMUM WAGE. can you tell me about the claims process?"
"ma'am you already made a claim with spherion"
"ok, i'm sorry, the APPEALS process- i don't understand why spherion is paying for something they had nothing to do with!! i wasn't living in carbondale working for them!"

the bitch hung up on me. just hung up. and it's like.. you know... i've NEVER applied for fucking unemployment before. i wouldn't fucking do it unless i HAVE to. and people have told me what fucktards they are at the office there and i just have to go in.
however, i talked to someone there a week ago and they said i was just SOL and would have to take the $99/wk they want to pay me... i was making $500/wk. how does that even make any sort of sense for compensation??? i pay $750/mo just for RENT.
and you know, it's fucking HARD for me to go to the office. i don't have a car, and the office is 3 towns away. i'd at LEAST like to have a heads up on whether or not this is going to be worth the time and effort to get over there, and they can't even give me that.
none of it makes any sense. it's so fucking ass backwards and what is it, just plain lazyness that they can't LOOK at my claim and fucking understand what i'm working with here? i should tell them i'm going to start selling crack to pregnant whores if they don't get their heads out of their asses. UGH.

Sadly, unemployment is based upon what you made your last 6 quarters. Since you were in a shit low paying job and haven't been in the high paying one long enough, that's what your benefits are based upon.
At least that's the way it's worked every time I had to file, in several different states.

there's fine print at the bottom of my statement that says you can appeal it... so i'm thinking if i bring in my last bank statement (with the direct deposit amounts) and my current lease (signed in october) they might reconsider... maybe?

Ugh, I hate those places. The last time I went into one for an interview, the grade A bitch behind the counter was taking my details and it went a little something like this:-
Bitch: "And do you have a degree or ay higher education qualifications?"
Me: "Yeah, a BA in Popular Music"
Bitch (rolling eyes): "Oh.... and what sort of career were you HOPING to get with that?"
Me: "Well, I did it because I love it, not because I want to get a job at the end of it".

No point in appealing unless you have other income during those quarters that didn't get added. Which actually happened to me, now that you mention it. Think about it....you have a zillion people all saying "It costs me more to live than you're giving me" and appealing. Yeah.. it's not like they're going to feel sorry for you. Imagine how many time per day they hear "you're not giving me enough to pay my rent." They don't care. It's a government agency, they can't make an exception for everyone because then it would become the rule.
