meaningless life dolla dolla bill yall

    what gives life meaning?
i've been struggling with this for several months now. i feel like i should be doing more with my life than what i actually am. mostly when it comes to the job i have. i think that this, in part, drives me to drink.
i continually strive to be the best of the best at what i do. which is basically be a (thriftily) paid people pleaser. then i see problems in the workplace that i feel like i can solve, but it bothers me because i'm JUST an aide. AGAIN.
    activity AIDE. nurses AIDE.
like i'm just santa's little helper for the rest of my life.. it's really bothering me because santa is a capitalist bastard who keeps a fucking list of who's deserving of goodies and who gets a lump of coal. fuck you, santa.
i see issues arise that i could SOLVE. stupid shit like seating arrangements and streamlining whole house activities. six sigma and lean, baby. organizational updates. scheduling conflicts. communication issues.
and i know i only have a limited number of puzzle pieces to look at. but i WANT the whole fucking thing. why the hell else would i go back to school? because i like standardized classroom settings!?
because the things that i DO see are simple. it blows my mind that some of the clusterfucks at work are even HAPPENING. i know i could really be a benefit with more responsibility. i love to organize. i love things to work seamlessly, and i love for people to be happy. i love my frugality. and i love myself enough to know that the perk to my self esteem would be great. i'm sick of wearing scrubs and being at the bottom of the ladder.
i'm sick of being out of the loop of the BIG picture. i excell in my current position. my coworkers bitch about other departments and create a rift in the environment that HAS to be a TEAM. when your job is in healthcare, you have to actually CARE.
don't just bitch about trash on the floor and what's "not" your job- just try to give a shit. it's not health maintenance. it's called health CARE. start caring.
and i'm no saint, i'd LOVE a six fig salary. i'd LOVE to be free of the stressors of "can i make rent? do i have enough quarters for a snickers lunch? what's the minimum balance for my next credit card payment?" and move up to "do i need that purse? well or lable?regular or premium?"
christ, the complacency of people who haven't worked in the trenches- or those who've forgotten what it's like- it is just absurd. i understand legal compliance, i GET the lawsuit happy, capitalist nature of society. shitty economy, budget constraints, outsourcing and layoffs.
i GET it. i can buy into it too. but i'm also not so blind as to think of people as objects. and i've been quite content with a living wage, and working hard at work WORTH doing. that is the essence of life. that is the meaning of life.
how it happened that the people running things have conveniently packed that away and forgotten it is just beyond me.

the whole "i'm just doing my job" or "that's not in my job description" mindset is absolutely fucked. the "letter of the law" bullshit? FUCKED. society? fuuucked.
i can't help a woman who's yelling "help me!" get off the toilet and into her wheelchair because of the "what ifs"
what if she falls? breaks a hip? the family sues because i'm technically not licensed to transport patients from a to b?
so let her sit on the pot for 25 minutes until the other underpaid underling has a chance to move her the 8 inches. coooooool. let's just have everyone suffer for the mighty dollar.

    bitchin.
'Cause I'm that fool that broke the key- I'm unlockable so don't check me- I got weight on my shoulders and things on my mind- The sky is falling and I'm falling behind... No shame in my game just par for the path- I try to hone my craft because at hand's the task- But I find I'm not playing with a full deck- I'm up to my neck like Toulouse Lautrec

heeh, what gives life meaning is the people around you mainly your family and friends as far as work goes i think youd have to pretty much look at the good things you do that help people... give them whatever they are there for also to treat them like a person instead of just a face thats pretty much what any job is suppost to be like while earning income to do what you love when your not at work..
grandfather always used to tell me make sure you get a job were you work to live not where you live to work or your lifes going to be a long one.

You answered your question in your post.. I think you know what the meaning of life is, for you, and what your purpose is. It just sounds like you're incredibly frustrated with where you are right now in relation to that. The only thing to do is to either stagnate where you are, or work to achieve higher things. Don't curse the uselessness of it all because then you become useless yourself, work to get yourself at the level you need to be in order to make the impact you want to make.

the thing is that i've interviewed for positions higher up, and it's the same song and dance everytime.
you don't have enough management experience.
    we're promoted someone internal.

this job was easy enough to land. i have years of experience in resident services. a bachelors in healthcare management. great references. i love the work. i just hate the dynamics. all the politics. working for the county- not to mention it's union- is crap.

actually, i worked the alzheimers floor today and i got a really nice compliment from a visitor to one of the residents today (i think it's her husband), and he said "wow, you're really good at what you do. the people here really react to you and that's really amazing"
and then after lunch he pulled me aside again and said "i really meant what i said, you're doing such a great job"

it was sweet. made me feel a lil better.

sprank you just have to do the time! don't stress about it, just learn as much as you can and recognise that experience counts on a resume. i am a bit hammered but i read this when i was sober and thought the same thing. i know it's frustrating but what i do is just think about what i would do to make it better if i was a manager, and i file that away in my little brain for when i am, and i will make shit better. you are doing a kick ass job though and we heayt you.

NO ONE WANTS YOUR GODDAMN VIDEOS

No, that's a lie, I just had the sudden urge to say it. Incidentally do you still have the list of all of them? I got about halfway done and then the link to the thread you made broke, and I've looked on google vids but I don't remember what the other ones were called... etc.

I did watch it, yes. very interesting, and i agree with most of it...

especially buying into marketing and the whole notion of going with the flow on popular action. shopping, spending, blah blah blah.

i was a lot happier when i lived in the boonies and could cast a line whenever i wanted. have my analyzed lifestyle. freedom, friends... very true indeed.

Sure, it's all part of the series, 'Philosophy: a Guide to Happiness':

    01 - Socrates on Self-Confidence - Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness
03 - Seneca on Anger - Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness
    04 - Montaigne on Self-Esteem - Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness
    0 5 - Schopenhauer on Love - Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness
06 - Nietzche on Hardship - Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness

There ya go. I'm quite tempted to buy the DVD and book.

Syco- "The Empress is the latter leg of this triad, representing the physical body and the material world. From her comes all the pleasure of the senses and the abundance of life in all its forms. She is also the mother archetype, and through her we get a first glimpse of the power of love in the Tarot." I think this is all representative of awesomly large tits, no?

The DVD comes with english subs, but I'm having a look for anything free man. There is a book too, called 'The Consolations of Philosophy,' which you might be able to find in ebook form? That's what the whole series is based on. I read 'Status Anxiety' by him too, it's totally sweet. But I think I left it in Spain, sadly.
