Sorry Cara, you're just wrong here. Society does not judge skinny people the way it judges fat people, at all.
Yes, skinny people can be an amusement, like holy shit, look at that... that is thin, and possibly a bit gross depending on how thin you're talking, But fat people, especially fat women I think are judged very differently because of their weight, and those judgements aren't just about appearence they're about personality and lifestyle too.

'Cause I'm that fool that broke the key- I'm unlockable so don't check me- I got weight on my shoulders and things on my mind- The sky is falling and I'm falling behind... No shame in my game just par for the path- I try to hone my craft because at hand's the task- But I find I'm not playing with a full deck- I'm up to my neck like Toulouse Lautrec

People should just refrain from making unwelcome comments about a persons appearance, full stop. I get it with my height and weight all the time. Now, when someone comes out with the obvious but still irritating "you're so tall", I give them a steady look as if I'm expecting them to say something else. Because why the fuck would you say just that? Because you have no social skills, that's why.

we had an incident at work, where someone made a comment about a skinny person, and she took offense and went on this tirade about how its socially acceptable to be mean to skinny people. She sat down at morning tea and had something to eat, which was a very rare occurence and this other persone was quite shocked to see her eat. She never meant anything mean by it. It was obviouslyl a touchy issue though, because it went on for days.
Never having been a skinny person, or even a normal sized person, i can't pretend to understand what its like
Really we should just embrace the beauty of each and everyone of us, no matter what their shape or size

I also have people pointing out how tall I am. Its just bizarre. Its like "Well thanks for pointing that out, because i was wondering why my head was so far away from the ground".

Yeah but doesn't the same work in an opposite way, too? If you're above sizes 16/18 you're bound to be ill, right? Now I'm not 100 % certain of this, but if you can go make an assumption like that of skinny people, can't I make one of fat people?? No offence, anyone.

Hahahahaha do you not think the link between being overweight and unhealthy has already been made? You have all sorts of government initiatives and national campaigns for people to lose weight and get healthier. I haven't seen any such thing trying to get skinny people to put on weight though.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

Of course it has, just not in this particular conversation.

Look, it's always rude. You don't go judging fat people's eating habits, so why is it okay to judge skinny people's eating habits? Serious overweight is even worse for health than serious underweight. Same applies to adults' smoking habits. We know it's bad for us, but it's our choice. So shut up about it!

I spent years skipping meals to avoid eating in public just to avoid people seeing me eat and thinking "oh look, the fatty is eating again"

One thing I don't understand is how some super skinny people will look at someone that's overweight and say, "Geez, stop eating and start working out. Then you'll lose weight," and then in the same breath will ask people to lay off how skinny they are because they just can't help it.

I've been skinny and I've been fat, so I don't really judge anyone's weight. I will say that I was never skinny without working for it, though, so I can't fully understand how that side of it feels.

    Hmm, very true!

I understand where you're coming from Cara. When I was a teenager I was very thin. Sometimes people used to ask me if I were anorexic It didn't upset me but I can see why it would be irritating to someone else.

People feel like they have free reign to say whatever they like to slender people because they don't think it could possibly hurt our feelings. A lot of people aspire to be unhealthily thin. All the girls in magazines are rakes. It's held up as the ideal so people think they can say 'fuck you're skinny!' and have it not matter, because you fit into the Western ideal of beauty so why WOULD your feelings be hurt?

I do think it's worse to be on the other end. I used to work with a girl who was my age, but she was much taller and generally much bigger than me. I'm under 5'3 and very petite, and someone made a comment about 'fitting 3 of me in 1 of her' and she laughed, but I thought it was desperately rude. People have no manners!
