Oohh and I was thinking about The Numbers. Seeing as the numbers also form part of the Valenzetti Equation, that makes the Losties with numbers variables in said equation which sort of solves that mystery. It wasn't a mathematical equation/solution but a very human one.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

I was watching The Big Lebowski last night and noticed something...

    Where's the money shithead???

    Obviously, Jacob's not a golfer...

Alright so this is now my own persnoal thread for posting about Lost? Marvelous.

Interesting parallel in the flash-sideways today. Ben trying to blackmail the principal with details of his affairs in order to get his position seemed awfully familiar. If I remember correctly, that's how he got Widmore banished from the Island and himself installed as the leader.

This episode also got me thinking for the first time about who might be the candidate to replace MiB (if there is one). MiB offered Ben the role of taking care of the island after he left - although of course this might just have been a ploy to get Ben back on his side. But perhaps Widmore showing up could be a hint that this is the way things are going. In the cave there was a balance with black on one side and white on the other so maybe the island needs that balance....

I just can't wait until episode 9. Screw the next one, just give me Richard's backstory!

I haven't read ahead at all, please don't tell me what episodes are going to be about!!

I read a bloody awesome theory recently:

I keep getting the nagging feeling that this is all going to wind up being some king of Grand Illusion. Lest we forget:

    MRI: Magnetic Resonance Imagining

    Room 23

    Jacob's dancing hut

    Numerous apparitions

Now in season 6 we have a magical lighthouse, the dead coming back to life, a magical dagger thwarted by a simple greeting.

I think the thing that totally tipped the scales for me with LOST was Locke's magic shoes. I'm not convinced anything we see is "real" anymore, and I'm inclined to embrace some of those theories from early on.

As distasteful as it might seem to be, at this point, doesn't it seem like it is the EASY answer?
Ok, I realize this is far fetched, but I want to explore the possibility of Jacob and the Man in Black being "Masters of Illusion"

The first indication that something was not "right" on LOST was the apparent presence of the Smoke Monster in the pilot. Rose says "That sounds familiar". I think at this point the minds of the LOSTIES had already been "tapped".

The pilot himself was found in the top of the tree, apparently left there by the smoke monster. My hypothesis: He was always in the top of the tree. The pilot in the cockpit whom Jack and Kate had a conversation with was an illusion. Radical idea 1:

    Smokey never killed anyone

"But" (you may say) "surely the smoke monster killed Eko!"

Did it? Or did Eko die of the wounds inflicted by the polar bear? Was the thrashing Eko received merely another illusion, for his benefit?

"But wait... what about all those other people Smokey killed? Keamy's men? Bram's crew? The Temple people?"

I counter... what if those people never existed in the first place?

    More later...
Ok... now that I've gone this far, I'm going to go all the way.

    1) What if they NEVER left the Island?

The purpose of the '06 storyline? To get the characters to WANT to be on the Island. What if all that was an illusion? The implications are interesting:

    Kate did NOT raise Aaron!

Aaron may very well have been in the Temple. The "Locke" says he tells the truth. Maybe he didn't lie to Claire!

    Ajira 316 does not exist!

Maybe Frank was ALWAYS the pilot. I'm not sure exactly how that works, but it feels right.

    Locke isn't dead!

He isn't dead because Ben never strangled him

    The Doneky Wheel is fake!

How could a "wheel" cause an Island to disappear or people to go back in time? It can't! They just needed to believe they were doing something.

I really don't know exactly how far I think this goes, but it is mind boggling. While it seems like this all might make the show suck, it might actually be the twist that redeems it beyond our expectations. It has to be grounded in some sort of "reality" that has real life and death stakes, and meaning to the characters.
It's vague and probably wrong, but i really like it.

Haha that's a mad theory! Can't see it being right but it's a fun read anyway. Some of the theories you see about the place are just tootally off-the-wall but they're always based on what's already hapenned and as we know, Lost always takes the most unexpected turns. Absolutely nobody predicted the Jacob VS MiB situation did they?

I won't spoil anything in the future although all I know is who the next couple of episodes focus on. Not into reading filming reports and all that.
