One film for all of humanity

This came up in the pub last night. Let's say there's some massive terrible world event, loads of people die, and every single film on the planet is destroyed. That includes .avi files, DVDs, VHS's, everything.

But in some bizarre twist of fate, you have been blessed with the chance to save one.

    Which would you save?

Personally, I'd probably go with Apocalypse Now. It's a masterpiece, it's a reminder of the horrors of war, and it's an insight into the nature of good and evil and human corruptibility. And it's got The Doors and Wagner in the soundtrack. All good things for the human race to witness, in my opinion.

stuff is just stuff. your emotional health is much more important. holding raging anger in is more harmful than your faggot-assed tv that probably deserves to get its ass beat anyway.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly because I'd need something humbling but uplifting, and it's beautiful.

Star Wars every time. Just because it's so fuckin amazing.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

A 1950's style movie on hygiene. At least that way, the ignorant and rage filled masses of the post apocalyptic world will smell minty fresh.

    Taboo 3?

Shit... I can not be sure anymore. Lately all I have seen is suck, most notably from JJ Abrams.

Fringe? Seriously? Every messed up ET supernatural thing ever is a result of dyslectified, semi-lobotomated doctor who can not seem to remember how to operate a comb?

I can see the next episode already...

"Yes, well, that was back when I was researching a cure for baldness. To finance this reseach, I was working as a burger-jack by night at a fast food restaurant. Between the rampaging hormones (I am always my own test subject, even back to childhood and my first lobotomy by numbers kit) and the youthful charms of some of the female employees, I developed a raging tumescence, which I relieved into a paper cup on my first break.

Upon returning, the manager took the cup from my hand and told me to get back to the grill, as she proceeded to draw a vanilla shake. Evidently, she was filling an order for a woman who was a prostitute. Somehow between my pervasive chemistry experiments, damaged genetics, and her own agressive collection of infections, it induced extreme diarrhea in her clients.

The constant flushing actually cause whole sections of Detroit to disappear completely.

"Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that you were the cause of the Brown Triangle of Detroit?

"Yes. Not only that, but if condom use had been more prevalent, Detroit might be a much larger city today."

Blah. Don`t even get me started on that stupid ass Star Trek flick. I liked Kirk and Spock. The whole rest of the film should be shit canned. 'tee hee hee, I`m gonna turn star trek completely upside down by blowing up Vulcan' >yawn<

That wasn`t innovative. It was lazy. So is time travel. In fact, time travel is the other middle finger to the audience. If your character is not referred to as 'The Doctor', your character needs to stay his ass out of time travel. Period. Lazy writing.

Meanwhile, back on topic, I wish I could be nice and say Casablanca, or Highlander. I do like those two movies. Probably pick 'Humanoids from the Deep' though. Inflict that on the future because probably someone there deserves it.
Ayuh, not dead yet. Might change that with an S1000RR though
