So I got the official document in the mail yesterday.

We have a graduation ceremony at the college tonight for all of us that completed it.

I had to take a series of tests involving all the stuff you are supposed to learn in high school.

Social Studies=96
Science=96
Math=82
Reading=86
Writing/Essay=Pass.

Those tests took a long time to complete.

I took a look at my certificate of completing the GED tests, and thought that I should have done better somehow.

Not academically better, but I wish I could have just finished high school, like everyone else.

I was stupid not once, but twice.

I just don't see myself as being a good role model for anyone when I get older.
Let's say on the off-chance that I become a father. *gasp*

What will my children think of me?
Someone who couldn't acheive a standard high school diploma?

I don't know.
I am just angry at myself for not staying out of trouble.

Dude, do you know how many people don't bother to get a GED because they're too embarrassed or because they feel like it's "not as good as a regular diploma" so it's not worth it.

I think it takes a lot of courage to own up to your mistakes and make the best of a bad situation. It also took a lot of courage to go through with the GED program. Now you can go to college if you want to. Maybe you don't want to go, but at least you earned the option now.

I'm proud of you. I really am. I think you should be proud of yourself, too.

I agree with Spike. It takes a lot to actually take those tests, let alone do well and get the marks you did.

For example... my youngest sister dropped out of high school, she's 24 yrs old and still has not completed her GED testing. She's a great person, my best friend... but so far she has lacked the dedication to get it done.

I think you should be proud of yourself too, for turning things around. The past is simple: it is what it is. All you can ever really worry about is the future and how you can make the best out of tomorrow (as cliche' as that is, it's true). I'd seriously look into attending college and getting a degree. Absolutely continue with your current course and continue to kick ass. I think it's awesome

Please, even the stupidest people I knew who dropped out passed the GED no problem. Have you ever seen the questions on there?

I don't think you should feel bad about not finishing high school. It's called a "good enough" degree for a reason. You can still go to college and do whatever. Props to you for having the motivation to get the GED in the first place.

Its sounds like you did well. You should be proud. You've shown the initiative to get out there and do something, making the best of your situation as it stands.

And as for being a role model for your future children, my dad never went to high school. At all. But he's still a good man, and a great role model, who has gone on to achieve many things.

I'd be very proud of a GED.

What will your children think? That you are their dad.

If you are really worried about it, you can start kicking some ass now. High school and most of college is a joke anyway.

Real world skills matter, and all that matters in the real world is a desire to learn. Sounds like you've got that.

Both my parents had their GED and it never phased me as "Not good enough" or "not the same" A diploma is a diploma is a diploma. The only time I EVER brought it up was to be all "Well YOU didnt finish high school and still got your diploma after, so why can't I drop out" But I think "You" would have been replaced with anyone else who hadn't finished school, just to make a point.

Passing highschool is more a measure of how much bullshit you're willing to swallow than of your intelligence. Anyone with a public united states education knows this, all it really says is you don't like eating shit.

thats great to hear, rooster.

both my best friend & my little brother need to get their GED's. i know my best friend is afraid to take it because she is afraid that she will fail - shes been putting it off for 3 years. im going to beat her ass soon enough if she doesn't take it. my brother just moved back to pa. & my mom told him that he is getting his GED, she's taking him to GED classes & all that jazz (he's 18)

i mean, i don't look at people with GED's differently - they are who they are because of WHO they are, not if they have a GED or diploma. they are both smart people in my book.

My god stop being so hard on yourself. Well done for getting your GED. Hope you celebrate.

My husband and I only attended High school for 3 yrs, we both sat School Cert but I only passed 2 subjects, so I failed. Of course this was years and years ago and things where different then. School Cert doesn't even exist anymore so it means nothing anyway.

What counts is you did it and passed. Now you can plan your next goal. Not everyone is geared up to stay in school, there is a whole world out there full of opporunties and choices. Just don't sit on your butt wishing you had done something you didn't.

What do you want to do or be?

As for your future kids. Don't sweat it. Kids mainly want a loving, stable, safe, happy home enviorment. It will make you want better for them though and you will be wiser from your own life experience and have a greater understanding especially if you see one of your own kids following in your steps, you will be able to guide them to acheive.
