Sooo I have a job as a server, but not the mexican place. My brother works two jobs being a server and a cook, but at one of his jobs one of the cooks got a hernia and my brother is taking over as a full-time cook. He called his serving job and told them he couldn't work there anymore and asked if I could take his place, and they said yes.

I start at the end of the week and my brother is training me (hahaha) and I also have to learn how to bartend...since my brother was the bartender...this will be interesting what with my limited knowledge of alcoholic beverages I'm probably in over my head but HEY i have a job and the owner loves my family so maybe he won't fire me quickly if i turn out to be a terrible server slash bartender. Oh yah, it's a greek restaurant!

I've had a few different jobs as a server - waitress and I didn't really like any! I think you have to be quite outgoing and confident (you seem to be) so I'm sure you might like it. But because I'm quite reserved I had quite a hard time, but as everyone says it was money at the time. Never again for me though.

It's very fast paced at times too which I hated. And yes people are ****s and look down on you. That was only my experience of it all though you might like it and especially because you're working with people you know it will most probably make it much easier.

I hope it goes well for you, good luck.

You can bartend if you're not 21 where you live?

I think you'll do great.

My two cents.

Be professional. Adopt that idea of courteous efficiency as your persona. Does not require that you like everyone, or even that you kiss their respective asses for tips. You do your best at the job because you have agreed to do so. At the same time it lets you be polite to the odd complete asshole without degrading yourself. Remember, they are the restaurant`s customers. If you really have a problem with them, tell the manager, not the customer.

Eh, all that being said, serving can still be pretty stressful. Most of the time though you do good and the people only want you to do the job.
Ayuh, not dead yet. Might change that with an S1000RR though

if your not prepared to play the game...and by that i mean put on a front and a smile etc...then i wouldnt bother.
if you're clever though, you'll pimp the system and laugh all the way home with a pocket full tax free cash.
i guess it depends how willing you are to pretend to be someone your not for financial gain...
I think that mostly sums it up nicely or most any gig you get. I can only assume that you are a reaonably nice person who doesn't dislike people - just not sure how you'd feel about providing them with service. Note I didn't say 'serving them' since that is such an offputting way to put it. If you are the type who doesn't like dealing with the public, find something better suited to that personal style. You can only fake it for so long before you snap

You'd deal with jerks in any service related job and if you have to pick one, pick the one with the better chance to make some real money in tips! Beats working at Target or the Gap I'd bet
