It's not that bad, why don't you just try it and see if it works out, I think you're making it into a bigger, scarier, situation than it really is.
I've made a point to avoid the food business and now that the economy is supposedly shit, there are no jobs....except in the food business. So nevermind that i just failed a personality test already for another serving job (don't ask), I have an opportunity to be a waitress in one those faux semi-posh mexican restaurants, where tips would be more abundant than a regular restaurant.
Anyway...70% of the working staff, including the hiring manager, used to work with my brother, they're all friends and they've all tried to persuade me into working with them when they were all working together last year. My chances of getting hired are pretty guaranteed, but my problem is I'm hesitant about jumping into the food business, even if the majority of the waitstaff would be more patient with me than any other newly hired person.
I mean...I know I could do it, but I've never done it, and it seems like an incredibly stressful job. Having horrendous customers like my mother who judge you the second they look at you and if you make the tiniest mistake, make it clear how much of an idiot they think you are and how your job is so "easy". And this restaurant is REALLY busy, that is really intimidating for me, it's busy all the fucking time and being new and thrown into that, just seems like a recipe for a lot of screw-ups.
Plenty of you have had serving/restaurant experience I'm sure. I hate 95% of people and I'm really good at being personable and cheery if I need to be, and on one hand everyone tells me how you make tons of money being a server and they insist I'd make a lot but then on the other hand...I just don't know if I'd hate this job.

If the wait staff is all friends with one another, that should make things much easier. They'll take you under their wing and be sure to show you the ropes, and they won't get as irritated at you if you do screw up.
I say give it a shot. A job's a job.

Waitstaff make more money than anyone in the restaurant, fa sure. Give it a shot. If I can do it, anyone can! Just relax and be yourself. It's fun interacting with people in that way. I actually miss that part of the restaurant biz!

stuff is just stuff. your emotional health is much more important. holding raging anger in is more harmful than your faggot-assed tv that probably deserves to get its ass beat anyway.
Just do it. If you want a job and there aren't jobs anywhere else, you don't really have a choice anyway. Who the fuck cares about the people who will judge you for making a mistake? Most jobs worth having are going to be at least somewhat stressful and challenging. And in a month when you know what you're doing and you're making good tips, you'll be glad you sucked it up now.
Do it. Worst case, it doesn't work out and you move onto something else. Best case, you love it and make lots of money.

It's good money if you can stand the assholes. One thing about a shitty economy is people usually don't stop going out to eat.

Won't know unless you try kid. You've got nothing to lose. You could surprise yourself.
And watch the movie "Waiting". Not only do you get to see Ryan Reynolds sans shirt, It might make you chill out a bit. It can only take so long to learn to deal with dogshit customers. If you take nothing personally you'll be fine.
Sweet as the Punch.Syco- "The Empress is the latter leg of this triad, representing the physical body and the material world. From her comes all the pleasure of the senses and the abundance of life in all its forms. She is also the mother archetype, and through her we get a first glimpse of the power of love in the Tarot." I think this is all representative of awesomly large tits, no?
Its hard putting on a fake smile and a cheery voice the whole time, and the customers do tend to treat you like a dumbass because your a waitress, and I personally hate serving people, I feel like it should be the other way around. But I agree that you should try it, you might find being an actress on the stage of the restaurant floor a breeze and the money easy!
Theres more to life than being really really ridiculously goodlooking?
Ive had several waitering jobs.
your a good looking girl, youll get good tips..
if your not prepared to play the game...and by that i mean put on a front and a smile etc...then i wouldnt bother.
if you're clever though, you'll pimp the system and laugh all the way home with a pocket full tax free cash.
i guess it depends how willing you are to pretend to be someone your not for financial gain...
Fuck the pigs in my city, they can burn in hell. I'll kill a hundred fuckin hootahs before they take me to jail!
Didn't you just get a job with your school and were stressing over an interview a little while ago? Or was that someone else?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (distracted @ May 30 2009, 08:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div>yeah, what happened with that?Didn't you just get a job with your school and were stressing over an interview a little while ago? Or was that someone else?[/b]
and what payaso said about tax free moniez. dooo it. if you hate it, you quit. bada boom. tips! people who've got your back! a JOB!
and p fucking s, i used to work for kfc. and six flags. and "lindy's and gertie's chili and icecream diner." and a dorm kitchen. ALL in kitchens or dishrooms. i'm sorry, but a waitressing job just doesn't seem like "food service" to me. i'd rather take a waiting job than a FOOD SERVICE kitchen job aaaany day. blech.
the last one i had, i quit cuz they defrosted the pizza freezer before i came in for my shift and then told me to clean it. nevermind i was loaded off my ass on blow, i quit that sonofabitch that day.
motherfuck minimum wage without tips.
pffff. bitch about "food service". please. go wash pots and pans in a chili/icecream diner for $5/hr in the dead of summer for a crabass 90year old woman who won't turn on the a/c, and THEN come cryin about jobs.
/rant.
just take the damn job!!!!!!
and ps, even if you DO act like you're on the rag, you're a waitress... MOST people still tip at least 15%, at LEAST. it's expected. i ALWAYS tip my servers 20%+, and i'm poor as hell. and i don't even have the "i know how hard it is" excuse since i've NEVER waited tables. buck up and get a job. hippie.
'Cause I'm that fool that broke the key- I'm unlockable so don't check me- I got weight on my shoulders and things on my mind- The sky is falling and I'm falling behind... No shame in my game just par for the path- I try to hone my craft because at hand's the task- But I find I'm not playing with a full deck- I'm up to my neck like Toulouse Lautrec
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (distracted @ May 30 2009, 08:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div>Yes but now it's summer and my school is an hour and a half away...and I also transferred universities.Didn't you just get a job with your school and were stressing over an interview a little while ago?
