joining the navy. sounds good to me.

i've thought about it in the past, but i never actually looked into it since i never wanted to put myself in a situation where i'd risk death, honestly.

my mom's always had great things to say about the navy. she ranked "E6 petty officer first class" back in the late 70s- she lived in cali, hawaii, new jersey.. and worked at a desk reading weather patterns. they paid for her to finish college, and she's got a pension. pretty sweet.

so, i was on careerbuilder today- as i am every day- and you know, i'm having such a hard time finding a job. i've been on interviews- but only as many as i can count on my fingers... it's pretty disheartening considering my bachelor's degree is in HEALTH CARE management... you'd think i could find something. my only offers have been for part time reception at a vet's office and part time teaching little kids how to paint. great. i went to college for this!? no.

anyhow, the us navy pops up in my search- alongside countless telemarketing jobs, bullshit parttime work, minimum wagers, and managerial jobs that require years of experience.
so, then there's the navy- with a pretty, shiny offer to join as an officer, travel the world, perks out the ass... and i gotta say, it's looking pretty fetch.

i'm 25. nothing tying me down (sides my dog, who my cousin wants...)
i want to travel. i want experience. i want adventure.

i've got the personality for it. the more i think about it, the more exciting it sounds.

so now i'm waiting for a recruiter to call me. my mom is going to help me with the contract before i sign anything... and i gotta say, i think this could be my ticket.

i haven't looked into the airforce yet, which i'm also going to check. and jet fuel runs in my blood (i learned to fly at 13, my dad's building a plane, my cousin does air traffic control, la la la)

but i really think i could benefit from the military. especially since i've already got a degree and can work on another during service.

so what do you guys think?
'Cause I'm that fool that broke the key- I'm unlockable so don't check me- I got weight on my shoulders and things on my mind- The sky is falling and I'm falling behind... No shame in my game just par for the path- I try to hone my craft because at hand's the task- But I find I'm not playing with a full deck- I'm up to my neck like Toulouse Lautrec

I have a friend who was in the navy. He was a photographer and didn't do jack shit except occasionally take pictures for what was the equivalent of a yearbook. He's 27 now and went back to college, he just graduated actually, and they paid him like $1500 a month to be there..

It's a pretty sweet deal. And he was stationed in Japan and got to eat lots of delicious sushi.

    Do it!

Just kidding, I dont think you should but I'm pretty anti-military as it is.

It really sucks when you study for something and then can't get a job in that field.

It sounds like this idea has you pretty excited, so i think you should look into it. No harm can come from that, and if you still feel good about it, you should go for it.

I like it, it's unexpected - most people in your position go to law or business school. Look into it. I have a friend going into reserves right now. I think they are getting less generous signing bonuses right now than previously, but I don't know details. It seems pretty drastic to me, but it could be good, and now is the time to try it while you have nothing tying you down. You do seem like you may have the personality for it. Although you still seem more artistic than all this navy / business /health care stuff.

do some serious research as to what it IS actually like from the people who are in it, rather than the Navy themselves. I looked into joining the army a couple of years ago and it looked like a pissing summer camp.

navy is good if i could do it all again tho id go coast guard... its about the same as the navy tho... since they dont stay out as long as the navy ships but if you get a cushy job on land that doesnt really matter. air force is cool too i wish i hadnt joined the army and went either of those two since they have alot more to offer as where the army its like deployment after deployment
