    Classes!

Oh hey it's that time again! I always like hearing about what classes other people are taking, since most of the time I'll never take anything like them.

So for those sb-ers still in school, what are you taking?

I'm like beyond excited for my classes this year even though they're all difficult and VERY time-consuming. I was signed up for 18 credit hours but decided to have some sort of a life and am now taking 15:

French Int II- new university so new french program, loving it so far!!

Courts and Culture of the Middle Ages- 400 level course called a "cluster course". People who are french, english, or history majors can take this toward their major. For the french majors, we have to do all the readings, essays, homework in french When I found out our literary paper had to be written in french, I wanted to die.

Philosophy of Symbolic Logic- I'm satisfying a math requirement as well as satisfying credit towards my major. My teacher looks like a failed Einstein with a nasally voice.

Philosophy of Ethics- I want to marry this teacher. He's like exactly the kind of man I want to marry some day. This will also be my toughest class, mentally and work wise.

Great Directors of Foreign Film- hahha this is my bullshit class, but it does take up a lot of time watching movies, and there's quite a few papers to write.

I'm already incredi-busy but this is like the first time I've been excited to be in college, since I actually have majors now. Also briefly considered triple majoring by tacking on Spanish since I've already gone so far in Spanish. Perhaps get that out of the way during the summers??? If I only had so much money.

finished college more than 5 years ago sorry to be off subject. just to learn new stuff nowadays, i like watching the discovery and the history channel and reading books my gf refers me. most of her books bore me. i'm so happy to be done with school the hours nearly destroyed me. the last two subjects you posted sounds the most interesting to me.

    Mine are all child related

    Foundations of early childhood development
    Guiding behavior
    Child Development
Program planning (essentially learning to teach through play! YAY!)

A full day practicum 2 days a week, along with a seminar once a week.

I also have to take a communications course, as well.

Soo.. I am cramming 5 classes and a seminar into three days. For a wicked total of 19 credit hours. Should be interesting.

I only have 16 credit hours next term.

Next year is going to be nasty though - 3 full days of practicum, and 5 courses and a seminar crammed into two days. Yipee.

For a second I thought the title was "Glasses" so I was going to be "omg that would totally be hot on you" but alas.

I'm doing a practical but time consuming foreign policy class that's worth double credits, a more theoretical US politics unit and feature writing. I'm getting killed, most hardcore semester ever.

It's crazy how broad American degrees seem to be. In the UK if you're studying music like I was, then you only take classes in Music. For example, my final year was Music Aesthetics, Composition, Music and the Moving Image, Music as an Industry, Composition and 30% of it was a 10,000 word dissertation of my own choosing. As a result, I know quite a lot about my choses subject and I'm not sure how that would be the same under the US system (not that that is a good or bad thing). Ghetto, what's your major if you're doing so many different classes???

Oh, and I'm currently taking one class which is Espanol.
The broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes... Adolf Hitler

Brew my uni is a liberal arts school that is really big on research. So I'm working on getting a degree in history but had a ton of requirements in other subjects to make me a well rounded person. It was mostly a waste of my fucking time. We still study our subjects in depth though. I have to write a research paper in my last term and have the option of also doing a thesis.

-History: Women in the Middle East I'm taking this for my Middle East Studies minor
-History: Prophet Mohammed and the Caliphate - Also for Middle East Studies Minor
-History: Tribalism in Africa - Taking this for my concentration (modern history)
-Politics: International Relations of the Third World (for fun)
    - Colloquium: Visions of Africa (depressing film course... its a requirement for a program i'm in)
    - Colloquium: Culture and Cultural Differences (BS course am required to take for living and learning program)
    - Sociology: Contemporary Social Problems (Hate it)

Well, somewhat. Looking back, I can honestly say that the writing courses I took my first year in college (though they had nothing to do with my major) really did help me later on down the road. I'm thankful for them. Didn't hurt my major, either; I started specializing in my second year, and in my third and fourth years I took nothing but the courses in my major. It's only broad if you want it to be; some of us specialize like crazy people.

    At the moment, I'm taking:
New York Practice (good to know for the Bar Exam next year)
Criminal Procedure: Adjudication (otherwise known as what happens "from bail to jail")
Natural Resources Law (go go hippie law)
Environmental Law, Policy, and Ethics (again with the hippie)

So I'm still specializing, even in law school. My first year was very broad (out of necessity), but since then the vast majority of my courses have been related to environmental law.

I'm taking a bunch of classes but the worst is modern physics. Just look at this question.

It is said that “time flies when you’re having fun.” Some people having fun go past you at v = 3 × 10^6 m/s. You see one of them laugh for 20 seconds straight as observed in your frame. How much different is the duration of their laugh in their frame?

He didn't like my smart ass engineer answer. Are all physicists this retarded? This question isn't hard, but the hard ones are phrased just as retardedly.

Shit like this is why I gave up on taking physics. My high school physics teacher was an idiot, and english was his second language. So, we got retarded questions which were written in poor english and with bad grammar. I couldn't even understand them half of the time.

On a different note; School is kicking my ass. Comm class is easy, but lots of assignments. I totally look like an over-achiever because I met the qualifications for the next class up, however decided I didn't need the stress and took this one. One guaranteed A, anyways.

Child development is a joke...the instructor is so scatterbrained and unorganized that I am still, 3 weeks in, not sure what the whole class is about. Although we have gotten into theories of development now, so maybe we've finally hit the part of the class where we actually learn something now.

Guiding behavior...is really interesting, but some brutal assignments. This past assignment literally took every waking hour of my spare time out of school, for over a week to complete, and I probably could've spent 2 more weeks on it to get it up to the standards I'd have liked it to be at.

Program planning...not as fun as it sounded. Instructor is a wing-nut and the assignments are easy but time consuming.

Foundations is easy...another fairly easy A, for me anyways. A lot of it is stuff I already know from past personal research or past schooling, so thats good. Ridiculously easy assignments.

Practicum is fun..I am in a kindergarten two days a week, planning and leading activities; as well as doing observations and evaluations. The kids are great and absolutely adorable. However, preparing the activities on top of doing assignments is more than I've got time for. I have parent-teacher interviews next week, which should be interesting.

How is everyone else finding their schooling so far?

I'm actually double majoring in French and Philosophy which makes it look really broad if you don't know that. The only class that is out of place is my film class which I adore, and I'll probably continue taking classes out of the film program unless I lose my scholarships. I see no problem with investing in everything you're interested in during college if you can. If i had more money and time I'd be doing all the languages. Still debating going back to Spanish and finishing that off.

So far I shouldn't have time for anything but since I have a terrible work ethic, I wait until the last minute. Even with 400 lvl classes I'm still getting A's doing this, makes me think college is a bit of a joke sometimes. Symbolic Logic is spamming my email box out the ass because apparently everyone is failing it (???) and the teacher keeps telling everyone to cool their shit, they have more chances to do better. I'm like wtf this is my easy class. I don't really understand, which I guess is the point of Logic, either you get it or you don't.

I've got my 15 page research paper en francais due in just a few weeks. And an Ethics test which is the only test we have and 40% of my grade.

Shit sucks and the majority of my blood is made out of coffee now.
