Thread: Model UN Opening Speech

So, next week I am leaving to go to a Model United Nations conferance for a week. Each country gives a little opening speech about what they wish to accomplish in the conferance. This is the first time I will have given a speech to such a large amoung of people (3000+) and I have no idea what to write about. I am representing Austrailia.

I have asked other people what they have heard in their times going and one speach (also from an Austrailian delagate) went something like "As Austrailia we want to accomplish many things at this conferance. But many of the worlds problems can't be solved in one week. There are many Human Rights issues that trouble us. IN the opinion of Austrailia the only way to solve any of these problems is if every one could set down their differences just to have a pint together. From just that one pint we can work towards togetherness... blah blah blah" I have NO idea what to talk about so any input would be very much appreciated

ok so at the opening cermony each country gives a little speach about what they wish to accomplish at the conferance. it can either be extremely general or it can be a specific problem that the country wants to solve. For example Ethiopia once talked about the problems of starvation and famine since most of the people of Ethiopia are mal nourished.

That poses another problem. I am not the familiar with Austrailia so what are some issures austrailia is particularly concerned about?
