Thumbs up

Is it the same game?
Or there're some differences between them?

I should know >.<

No, they're the self same thing. Soccer just tends to be the American term for what the British call football.

Football actually started out as two different games; Rugby and Soccer, and for some reason or other the two became seperated. I would guess at it having something to do with American Football.

What the Americans call soccer, the British call football. And what the Americans call football the British call American football.

Rugby was actually invented from football (soccer). Apparantly a school kid at a private school in the village of Rugby, England (I assume that's where the game got it's name) picked up the football (soccer ball) during a game of football (soccer) and invented the new game called rugby.

I've never understood that to be honest. At my school if you picked up the ball during football (soccer) everyone would just kick the sh*t out of you rather than go, "wow! a new game!" But then I don't go to private shcool

Have you ever noticed how people who like the game tend to use "football" and those who don't use "soccer"? That's how it seems to me. Though I am starting to always use "football" out of respect for the game of soccer, although I am not a fan of it.

I call it soccer and I've played for 14 years.
I'd was going to create a very strongly constructed argument against your position; but then I got high.

The William Webb-Ellis story is a myth. Before the Football Association was formed in England there were several different codes of Football. Each school pretty much used their own rules, so before a match they'd go over what rules they'd use. Several schools used rules with the ability to carry the ball in hand, and pass backwards, etc (i.e. Rugby). When the Football Association was formed and the rules for football were codified the schools and clubs that played with ball in hand withdrew from it and formed the Northern Rugby Football Union.

Etc. Etc. Rugby league then formed in the highlands and coal mining areas, b/c they couldn't take time off from work to practice, nor could they afford injury time away from work, so they started getting compensated for it. Rugby Union maintained its "amateur" status until 1995.
