Well, I knew that's about how the fight was gonna go down, I was hoping to see Kimbo beat on tank for a little while longer than that. What a fucking beast. i can't wait till he fights a real high caliber fighter!

    yes, but honestly...

    tank abbott??? r u srs?

at least the UFC put Brock Lesnar up against a decent opponent.

Kimbo is a side show and nothing more, and they knew that which is why he fought tank, a guy who was washed up 10 years ago.

    Kimbo has potential.

He is being trained by Bas Rutten, and anyone could do a LOT worse.

I don't think he'll ever be among the elite due to his advanced age, but he is a respectful student and he will be able to put on quality fights as his skill level advances.

Tank stubbornly refused to really cross-train, and it cost him during his best years. He actually had the balls to talk shit about Bas, who would possibly kill him. He kicks three or four times harder than a 35 mph car crash.

And Catter, he didn't do it for no reason.. he did it cuz THATS HOW A NIGGA EAT

Like I indicated in the Topic, everyone knew Kimbo was gonna destroy Tank. I still think that with the training he's had recently, and his raw badassness, Dana White should give him a chance for a few fights in the UFC. Even if he does terrible, at least we'll be able to see someone kick Kimbo's ass.

He's being groomed right now, which is the right thing to do.

That said, a couple of years and we could see him in the UFC.

My favorite fight of the night was Yves Edwards. The other guy shot a single leg, and Yves used his free leg to deliver a flying knee and knock the dude out. That was awesome.

Did anyone else see him fight tonight against Thompson?

I think that was such bullshit. Thompson wasn't wasn't ready to go down, and i think they prematurely called the fight. If they had let the round go on, Kimbo would have lost by decision. He spent most of the second round on the ground with his head against the cage just getting beat on till the end of the round. He had no ground game there.

He has brute power, but not much else.

For the amateur that he is, I think he survived on the ground pretty well. And while I agree the stop was premature, I'm pretty sure thompson was about to go down. He was taking some hard hits and seemed pretty disoriented from his ear popping (god that thing was nasty, he really should have had it drained before the fight). Kimbo definately has a lot to learn, and needs to work on his endurance. And they need to stop making him the main event if there's a freakin TITLE FIGHT.

The title fight I thought was pretty incredible until they stopped that too... lots of gay stops in tonights fight. I'll definately be looking forward to lawler vs smith round 2.

i don't think the stoppage was premature, Thompson had been hit by a couple of hard ass shots.

I do agree that Kimbo probably would have lost on the cards (assuming they aren't rigged) Kimbo still has very little ground game, and was close to being submitted three or four times. Thompson had a guilltone that was almost sunk, nearly got a kimura.

If thompson had been a little more active on the ground with his hips and posting up on kimbo he prolly could've tapped him or gotten in mount for the ground and pound.

He's a brawler, has a pretty good chin, and hard hands...but no endurance and very little skill other than standing in front of the guy and punching.

All his training goes out the window about 30 seconds into the fight when he gets tired and he reverts to street fighting, which makes sense, but c'mon...

also, isn't Thompson the first decent fighter he's been placed against? When is he gonna fight someone legit?

I don't think he'll fight anyone legit for awhile. And it's for two reasons: 1. he's really inexperienced, and this was only his 3rd fight. 2. He's CBS'/Elite XC new ratings poster boy, and they're gonna do everything they can to protect his image and make sure he has every possible advantage.

elite xc sucks, its a horrible promotion and they're taking Kimbo along like he's a boxer.

in the UFC they throw you in against good fighters, and if you win you survive, its more real.

If Elite XC and CBS keep this going, I'll be surprised.

It was depressing to see Gary Shaw in the ring after every fight telling the fighters what to say.

Grim Rogers reminded me of everything I hate about pro boxing. Watching those fools in the ring shoving every promo item they could into the camera's face was pathetic, as was that giant fat man doing the whole "repeat catch phrases" routine.

What the hell happened to Baroni? He had such promise. Now anyone with decent well-rounded skills exposes him. He needs to leave Hammer House in a hurry.

Carano looked good in her win, both looks and skill. But it's a slap to the face that she couldn't make weight. Another stain on an otherwise good fight.

Lawler/Smith had a chance, as Mauro said during the commentary, to be their Griffin/Bonnar. Amazing back and forth action. Smith was saved by the bell in round 1 only to come back and take round 2. Round three looked to be a barn burner until Lawler pulled a Liddell and shoved his fingers in Smith's eye. That said, the stoppage was one of the worst I've ever seen. Fighters are given five minutes to recover; he said he was fine. You could clearly see the ring doctor checking the wrong eye, and Smith repeatedly told her it was his right eye. She flashes her pen light in it for a second, turned to the officials, and called the fight. Just awful. Smith was horrified and Lawler stood in his corner, dejectedly slumping his head down because his inadvertent eye rake ruined a great fight.

Kimbo/Thompson - What a circus. Most of the second round was spent with Thompson pounding Kimbo on the ground. Towards the end, he had Kimbo in a crucifix and was raining elbows and light punches to his unprotected face. I'm sorry, but when you are no longer able to intelligently defend yourself, the fight should be in danger of being stopped. No chance here. The ref let it go and clearly said between rounds "It's ok. He wasn't doing any damage."

As for the stoppage in the third, I thought the Lawler/Smith one was bad, but this took the cake. Kimbo landed a haymaker that split his cauliflower ear, and a couple of punches, and the ref jumped in like Kimbo was just blasting away. If that's the case, then why didn't he stop it in the second? And while splitting an ear open may bleed and hurt, it does NOT impair the fighter like a cut over the eye. Ridiculous stoppage.

Overall I was really unimpressed. One of the bright spots, however was the CBS announcer. If you've seen the SNL Celine Dion skit where she has a talk show and shouts down all the other guests will appreciate what he did to Mauro and Frank. I hate Mauro's announcing voice and stupid phrases, and it was nice to hear a real announcer take charge.

While I agree the stoppage was lame, it was actually Smith's fault ( well kind of.) If a fighter admits to the doctor that they can't see at any point, the doctor has to stop the match. It's a rule. As a fighter, Smith should have (if he truly wanted to continue) lied about being able to see and taken the 5 minutes to recover and gain his vision back. Im not saying he didn't want to continue, I'm just saying that he fucked up by admitting he couldn't see.
