So Sven-Goran Eriksson, the former Lazio and England manager has now been sacked by Manchester City after ONE SEASON in charge of the club. The players all loved Sven and the fans do too. In the 2005-2006 season, Man City finished 15th with little prospect for improvement. In the 2006-2007, they set a new record for the least number of goals scored at home in a season (a record previously set in the 1912-13 season) and finished 14th and a mere 4 points from relegation. They now stand 9th after one of their better seasons, they've got some great players which Sven brought on board, they've got a fantastic stadium and the fans are looking forward to the club starting to challenge for European football after many many years absent. Not only that, but for the first time in god knows how many years, they managed to beat Manchester United twice in the league!!! Something which I know Mn City fans were ecstatic about.

So why on Earth would Sven be sacked???

WELL, the new owner of Manchester City is one Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister of Thailand. He's a corrupt motherfucker and whilst he was running Thailand, he was accused of mass corruption, demagogy, restriction of free press, dictatorship, many conflicts of interest, tax evasion amongst others. Human Rights Watch described the man as a 'human rights abuser of the worst kind' saying that he presided over extrajudicial killings and suppression of the media. Quite obviously, he knows nothing about football and has simply purchased Manchester City as a legitimate business interest and an excuse for hiding over here in England.

I hate how English football is being fucked up by the amount of foreign investment which is coming in and spoiling our game. Just look at all the bullshit surrounding Liverpool. Years and years of tradition seemingly just ended overnight. Liverpool always conducted business behind closed doors, it was a family owned club for a long time and enjoyed years of success. Now the owners are squabbling in public and undermining the team's manager Rafael Benitez. Then you have Abramovich at Chelsea, taking the club and doing whatever he fancies with it - even if it means sacking the very manager who lay at the root of the club's recent successes and who the team almost totally relied upon. Now Chelsea are in the situation where they're likely to lose their best players to whichever club Jose Mourinho joins next. DICKS!!!!

Football should be a sport first and business second. Fucking Rupert Murdoch!!!

It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. Wow, that is shocking that he got fired.

Man City was actually relevant this year, like... people besides their tortured fans actually cared about what they were doing. And they played great football, too.

Really sad. But it's a brave new world, man. It's a tough spot to be in as a fan. You want the league/sport you love to succeed and gain acclaim, because you think it's so great, but as soon as it gets popular like that, money comes in and spoils the whole thing. What's happening over there is crazy, especially with relegation looming in the background and Leeds standing as a warning to all. Could you imagine if Abramovich got tired of being an owner and sold the team and they went bankrupt under the weight of their contracts??
Statistics are like prisoners, torture them long enough and they'll tell you whatever you want to hear.

Yeah exactly! It's absolutely not on. There are teams here that have been playing for over a hundred years and there's no guarantee that they'll survive for another 10 let alone another 100 years because all of the money floating around football can disappear any second. A few years ago, ITV one of the major TV channels over here bid for the rights to show lower league football on their digital channel. Well, after everything was sorted and teams had basically spent all of the lovely new TV money promised to them, ITV Digital went bust and they all got fucked over with some teams simply going bankrupt or folding altogether.

It's just so sad to see real, proper sports teams being turned into franchises and simple assets to sports investment companies.
