So I know that a few people on here blog and I have a couple questions regarding the subject. Before I get started, this isn't a What I'm Eating Today/My Thoughts on Music/Blah Blah type blog. I want to start up a blog about current Intellectual Property issues (mainly copyright and trademark) as a means to help build networking within the IP community and develop a source of IP sample writing. I wan't my main focus of the blog to be on the ever expanding debate over piracy as it pertains to IP but I will be discussing other issues such as Lanham Act failures, brand warehousing, etc.

Basically what I want to know is what kind of steps should I be taking to help get my blog off the ground and "out" there. Other than just linking it in Facebook or Twitter, how do I start promoting my blog? Ive made an account on WordPress (I read up and they seemed to be the most professional) and I've already got a couple of articles in the works. So please, fellow bloggers, help me out with blogging 101.

i have a friend who's a semi pro poker player, and he's starting a blog. he said he got an offer for $50/post or something like that, OR to be sponsored by espn for free.

meanwhile i have no idea how he got those deals, probably cuz he does nothing but play poker.

i would say getting involved in some associations relating to what you're blogging about would be a good start. if i think of it, i'll ask my buddy how he got into it, too.
'Cause I'm that fool that broke the key- I'm unlockable so don't check me- I got weight on my shoulders and things on my mind- The sky is falling and I'm falling behind... No shame in my game just par for the path- I try to hone my craft because at hand's the task- But I find I'm not playing with a full deck- I'm up to my neck like Toulouse Lautrec

You should check out Girl Talk and other mash-up artists. They are on the fore front of the battle. Check out this article: sgundling.wordpress.com/2010/03/23/stealing-the-past-for-the-future-the-fight-against-intellectual-property-rights/ It's always a good idea to link other articles with your own and form a network- not only of your sources or oppinion.

    Wordpress is awesome.
My husband has a fairly successful blog going on. We have found the best way to get views is to like it on StumbleUpon. Of course you can't guarantee, how many of them are going to like it and stick around for more, but its a good way to get it out there. Also, tag it with whatever you feel, because that can draw in other people who are interested in that topic. And probably check out other blogs and leave comments on them. People will generally return the favour. Give yourself a few months and build up the content and don't be disheartened if you aren't a success immediately. The more quality stuff you have to read, the more likely people will be interested to come back to read more.

    Good luck with it all.
