Have you wondered what teens think? Why they do what they do? That thing that makes them so hard to live with? How their moods can change so fast?
Unfortunately I do not have the answers to these questions, even though, I have only been 18 for 6 months now. I do not remember why I did what I did, or how I could of ever thought, my parents had it out for me. But I know I did, and because of that, everyone thinks that as a teen, I was this complex teen, who either wanted attention, or just wanted drama in my life. Neither of these were true though, all I wanted was to live life, you know, have a few adventures before I had to go out into the real world. During my high school years, I was finally allowed to actually be a kid, have that life, and have experiences. I had to grow up super fast, so when the chance came I jumped on it.
Which I think is true for most teens, but the opposite. They see it as a time to be an adult, have adult experiences. They do see parents working hard, they do respect them, and even though they may not show it, they do want to be like them in some way. Some kids get to grow up slow and experience childhood, some have to grow up fast, either way, they have to be able to make some of their own mistakes, so when it is time for parents to let go, parents and the child, know they are ready and prepared.
I am not saying this is the same for every teen out there, for some it may be so far off the mark, by reading this, they will be laughing their asses off. But this is for anyone who has an influence on a teens life. Do not freak out if they make a mistake, ask questions, find out why, who knows, they may have a good reason. Talk to them about respect, when it comes to curfews, or grades, or even drugs, smoking, and drinking. When it comes to sex, let them make the choice, just ask them to make sure it is safe. Do not freak out on them, give them all a chance.
Half the time, teens may not know what is always right, or even what they are doing. That is just called life though, and whether or not people stumble, crawl, strut, walk, run, or stomp through it, that's how it works. People all make mistakes, adults and teens, everyone just needs to realize no ones done making mistakes, or having experiences until they die.
